Abstract: An electronic device includes a communication circuit configured to communicate with a base station based on a protocol, a memory configured to store one or more applications and one or more schemes for determining channel quality indication (CQI) indices, and a processor configured to determine a CQI index based on a signal received from the base station through the communication circuit and to cause the communication circuit to send the determined CQI index to the base station. The processor selects a scheme for determining the CQI index based on the application being executed. Other embodiments are also possible.
