    Abstract: Disclosed is a method for manufacturing a polyester fabric for an airbag that can not only prevent or minimize the separation of a sizing agent, which is provided to a yarn through a sizing process, during a weaving process, but can also maximize a peel strength between a textile substrate and a coating layer to be subsequently formed thereon and lower the stiffness of an airbag fabric by effectively removing the sizing agent from the textile substrate after the weaving process is completed. The method of the present invention comprises: applying a polyester-based sizing agent to a polyester yarn; manufacturing a textile substrate with the sizing agent-applied polyester yarn; removing the sizing agent from the textile substrate under an alkaline condition of pH 8 to 10; and forming a coating layer on the sizing agent-removed textile substrate in order to enhance air-tightness.

The polyester fiber has an elongation of 1.65% to 2.5% when tensile strength of 1.0 g/d is applied after heat treatment at 185° C. for 2 minutes, and additionally elongates in the range of elongation from 0.5% to 5% at the range of tensile strength from 8.0 g/d to the maximum strength. The polyester fiber simultaneously has low initial Young's modulus and excellent mechanical properties, and thus, it may provide excellent packing, dimensional stability, and excellent air cut-off effect, and simultaneously, minimize impact applied to a passenger thus safely protecting a passenger.

The initial maximum pressure of the inflating part is 40 kPa or more when injecting a gas therein with an instant pressure of at least 10 bar, and the pressure after 6 seconds is 25 kPa or more. The side curtain airbag may optimize to apply the method of seam sealant coating and sewing on the adhered part constituting a boundary between the inflating part and the non-inflating part. Thus, it can keep the internal gas pressure of the airbag to the extent of protecting passengers safely at rollover.
