    Abstract: A recording medium for storing encrypted audio data, an apparatus and a method for recording the same, and an apparatus and a method for reproducing the same. Encrypted and unencrypted audio data corresponding to an audio program to be reproduced, such as a musical selection, are recorded in different areas of a recording medium. The encrypted audio data allows a reproduction of the audio program with a sound quality far better than a reproduction of the audio program using the audio data which is not encrypted. The audio data is encrypted and recorded to prevent illegal copying of the higher quality sound data. Accordingly, audio data may be reproduced using the unencrypted audio data in a reproducing apparatus complying with existing specifications. Higher quality audio may be reproduced from the encrypted audio data using the present invention.
