Abstract: A video apparatus capable of changing a video output mode of an external video apparatus, and a control method of the video apparatus are provided. The video apparatus includes an interface which is connected to an external video apparatus, enabling communication between the video apparatus and the external video apparatus; and a controller which generates a control message to control a video output mode of the external video apparatus and transfers the generated control message to the external video apparatus via the interface. Therefore, it is possible to prevent video and audio signals from not being output due to user inexperience, and to increase user convenience.

Abstract: A method for selecting an icon through grouping, according to an exemplary embodiment, includes grouping a plurality of displayed icons into a plurality of groups according to a user's selection, allocating a different key of a plurality of keys on a remote controller to each one of the plurality of groups according to the user's selection, receiving a user's key selection signal corresponding to one of the plurality of keys which corresponds to one of the plurality of groups, moving a selection area from a current icon to a focus icon of a group including an icon desired by the user according to the user's key selection signal, moving the selection area from the focus icon to the desired icon according to an input of at least one direction key on the remote controller and selecting the desired icon.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for controlling input from a computer keyboard, in non-monitor mode, in a multifunctional image display apparatus having the function of a TV and computer monitor. The disclosed control method includes the steps of sensing commands input via the key input unit, determining output mode of the monitor, displaying the current mode indicator on the monitor according to the output mode of the monitor by communicating with the monitor after recognizing commands from the key input unit, and executing input commands if the output mode of the monitor is a PC mode and canceling input commands if the output mode of the monitor is not a PC mode.

Abstract: A combination system of optical or other recording/reproducing apparatus and a television has a subtitle unit disposed in the optical recording/reproducing apparatus; a caption unit disposed in the television; and a controlling unit. The controlling unit stops the operation of the caption unit when a mode to operate the optical recording/reproducing apparatus is set up. In addition, the controlling unit operates the caption unit and displays the subtitle data and the caption data at different positions on a screen of the television when a mode to simultaneously operate the subtitle unit and the caption unit is set up. Therefore, the subtitle data and the caption data are not overlapped on the screen.

Abstract: A programmed recording device and method of a CATV broadcast. The device and method determines if the current mode is a CATV broadcast recording mode when the current time reaches a programmed recording start time in a programmed recording mode, and if so, the programmed channel of a cable converter is moved to a valid channel as well as the mode of the cable converter is changed to a CATV broadcast receiving mode. The device and method enable a safe programmed recording of the CATV broadcast by automatically transmitting a channel-up code to convert the programmed CATV channel to a valid channel in case that the programmed channel is an invalid channel, and then transmitting the programmed channel code.
