The decoding method includes the steps of: (a) sequentially storing an input image signal in a buffer which predetermines a relief width; (b) performing decoding if the amount of the stored image signal is larger than the predetermined relief width of the buffer; and (c) resetting the relief width of the buffer by combining the prescribed decoded information.
