The pixel region has a common electrode formed of a transparent conducting layer having a plurality of slits, a pixel electrode formed of a transparent conducting layer and having plane shape, and a first insulating layer interposed between the common electrode and the pixel electrode. The common electrode is arranged between the pixel electrode and the liquid crystal layer, and the pixel electrode is overlapped with a plurality of slits of the common electrode. A thin film transistor is connected to the drain signal line, and the pixel electrode is connected to a source electrode of the thin film transistor. The common electrode overlaps with a connection portion of the pixel and source electrodes on the first insulating layer.

The pixel regions include a pixel electrode formed of a transparent conducting layer and having a plurality of slits, a common electrode formed of a transparent conducting layer, the common electrode being overlapped with the pixel electrode through an insulating layer, and the liquid crystal being driven by an electric field generated by the pixel electrode and the common electrode. A conductor layer is arranged proximate to the drain signal line. The conductor layer is placed at a position where at least a part thereof overlaps the common electrode, and the conductor layer is not connected to the drain signal line and the pixel electrode electrically.

A backlight unit 200 of a just-beneath type with a plurality of light sources arranged below a light emission surface 38 includes a light emission spectrum controlling unit 53 for controlling separately light emission spectra in a front direction which becomes a normal direction to the light emission surface 38 and a slanting direction inclined at a predetermined angle from the front direction. The plurality of light sources are a plurality of LED light sources which are different in a light emission color, and each LED light source includes a first LED element with the front direction as an optical axis of emission light and a second LED element with the slanting direction as an optical axis of emission light for each light emission color.
