  • Patent number: 6867875
Abstract: The user circles the fax number or name of the receiving party and the system then uses the circled number or name to dial the receiving party's fax machine to initiate the transmission. The system scans the first page or cover page of the document to be faxed and uses a computer-implemented algorithm to detect the user-circled region. The image within the user-circled region is then extracted and optical character recognition performed to ascertain the fax number. Alternatively, the user-circled region may contain a name or other information to access a database where the fax number is stored.

  • Patent number: 6662180
Abstract: A method for searching for a query word in a database of automatically recognized text generated, for example by an optical character recognition (OCR) system or a speech recognition (SR) system finds entries that most closely match the query word. The database is indexed into a trie data structure, which represents all possible words in the database. The trie data structure has a plurality of branch nodes, each representing a letter of at least one word, and a plurality of leaf nodes, each representing a respective word. The trie data structure is searched for each query word by selecting the first letter of the query word and also selecting a root node in the trie data structure as the current node. All possible child nodes of the current node are identified. Respective estimated probability values for matching respective letters of the query word with the letters associated with the nodes in the path taken through the trie data structure are calculated for each identified child node.

  • Patent number: 6597808
Abstract: The scanned document is analyzed by connected component extraction and by calculating bounding boxes for each connected component. The connected components representing text, halftone images and characters overlapping the user-drawn circled region are eliminated to define candidate objects. The contour of candidate objects are generated and feature points are calculated including junctions of circles with other objects. Then, the user-drawn circled region is reconstructed by defining the contour segments belonging to the same circle. The user-drawn circle is recognized through a series of tests based on the size as well as the area the contour covers. The circle is further defined by removing or disregarding open arcs. After the user-drawn circle is fully identified, the image inside the bounding box of the contour is extracted and optical recognition may be optionally performed on the extracted image.

  • Patent number: 6371373
Abstract: Two embodiments of a method of decoding information stored in a two-dimensional barcode printed on a printed medium are introduced. Both embodiments provide an improved method of analyzing horizontal and vertical edge count arrays to identify the column and row centerlines therein to enable the subsequent reading of the binary data located at the intersection of each row centerline and column centerline. In the first embodiment, the centerlines are located by first locating each successive pair of peaks in the respective edge count array, where each peak must have a magnitude greater than a first predetermined value, and then locating a centerline in a valley region between each successive pair of peaks, each of the centerlines having a magnitude less than a second predetermined value. Preferably, each successive pair of peaks in the respective edge count array is separated by a third predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 6082619
Abstract: Two-dimensional barcodes surrounded by a quiet zone of white space which may or may not include a border, each barcode having encoded digital information in a bitmap representing preferably randomized encoded data bits, are printed onto a printed medium. To extract the encoded digital information from the printed medium, the printed medium is scanned, then the bitmap is located within the printed medium by moving a window, in stepwise fashion in a predetermined pattern across the printed medium. At each step the portion of the printed medium which is encompassed by the window is tested to determine whether it conforms to one or more characteristics of the bitmap. The skew of the bitmap, if any, is determined, by using a finite-state recognizer in combination with a Hough Transform calculation. In one embodiment, the candidate region is divided into a plurality of horizontal regions, preliminary skew angles are calculated for each region, and the actual skew angle is selected using a voting scheme.

  • Patent number: 5926485
Abstract: A semiconductor test system is capable of performing a simultaneous test for testing a plurality of memory devices at the same time as well as carrying out re-write operations in a page by page manner of the memory address, to reduce an overall test time. The semiconductor test system includes a hold means 5 which detects fail information in the output signal from a pass/fail judgement circuit 1, within a page of the memory address, and holds the fail information. A judgement means 11 is provided to determine, at the end of each page, whether the failure has occurred in each of the memory devices under test. A re-write control circuit 100 is provided for transmitting an output signal of the flip-flop 11 as a re-write prohibition signal 102. A plurality of re-write control circuits 200, 300 may be additionally provided corresponding to the number of devices to be tested.

  • Patent number: 5646948
Abstract: A test data pattern, an address pattern, and a control signal are supplied from a pattern generator to a test memory. Data read from the test memory is compared with expected data by an XOR gate. When they match, a compared result that represents pass is output. When they mismatch, a compared result that represents fail is output. A match signal WC detected by the XOR gate is held in a register. The register outputs an inhibition signal to an inhibition gate of the test memory. Thus, a write enable signal WE is inhibited from being supplied to the test memory. In addition, the inhibition signal is supplied to a compared result inhibition gate. The compared result inhibition gate causes the compared result to be passed and prevents the test memory from being excessively written.
