    Abstract: A turbo machine comprising: an impeller having a plurality of blades therewith; a casing having a flow surface defined therein and being positioned with the impeller therein; and a plurality of grooves being formed in the flow surface of the casing, for connecting between an inlet side of said impeller and an area on the flow surface of the casing in which the blades of said impeller reside. Each groove has a length of at least part of which is oriented in an axial direction of the casing, a width measured in a circumferential direction, and a depth. Also, second grooves 25 in a circumferential direction are formed in an area on the inner flow surface of the casing where the impeller blades reside in, for communicating the first grooves in the circumferential direction of the casing.

    Abstract: The invention provides a method for predicting the performance of a centrifugal pump with a balance mechanism comprising the steps of assuming leakage amounts in the back of an impeller and a thrust balance mechanism to calculate a flow-rate of the impeller for monitoring a leakage amount of a front and a back of the impeller, calculating a leakage amount in the thrust balance mechanism for judging whether or not a result of the calculation converges, to a set value. If the result does not converge, repeating the steps from the analysis of the flow in the thrust balance mechanism to the calculation of the leakage amount in the thrust balance mechanism. If the result converges, calculating a leakage amount in the pump. If a result of the calculation does not converge, repeating the steps from the calculation of the flow-rate in the impeller until the convergence.
