  • Patent number: 6766887
Abstract: A brake cable for a dual mode type drum brake functioning as a leading-trailing type during the service brake and as a duo-servo type during the parking brake, may be easily arranged at a lower side of axle. The first and second brake levers (118), (119) of a parking brake actuator (117) have proximal portions (118a), (119a) pivotally supported between two ends of a second brake shoe (3) and at a lower end thereof; free ends (118b), (119b) extend in opposed direction from the proximal portions (118a), (119a) in parallel to face and functionally engage each other; a strut (120) extends between the second brake lever (119) and the pivot lever (16); and a brake cable (23) pulled to activate the free end (118b) is arranged adjacent to the anchor (7).

  • Publication number: 20030226729
Abstract: An automatic shoe clearance adjustment apparatus having a ratchet wheel 124b and a driving member 127 comprising a pawl section 127f making a ratchet engagement with the ratchet wheel 124b and an arcuate leaf spring section 127e developing a resilient force for adjusting the automatic shoe clearance adjustment apparatus. The leaf spring section 127e is made of bi-metal. When the temperature of the leaf spring section 127e exceeds the predetermined degree, the arcuate leaf spring section 127e thermo-deflects so as to weaken the resilient force, thereby the automatic shoe clearance adjusting operation is suspended.

  • Patent number: 6651782
Abstract: A brake cable connecting apparatus having a cable end insertion groove 120a formed by U-like folding the free end of a brake lever 120 on one of brake shoes 1, 2 and a guiding member 150 provided onto the cable end insertion groove 120a. The guiding member 150 tends to move toward the bottom of the insertion groove 120a by a coil spring 160. When the cable end 142 is advanced in the insertion groove 120a, the guiding member 150 moves upward, passage of the cable end 142 is permitted by displacement of the guiding member 150 in a direction away from the bottom of the insertion groove 120a, then the guiding member 150 immediately moves downward, thereby engaging a backward surface of the cable end 142; therefore, restricting the cable end 142 from coming off.

  • Patent number: 6241051
Abstract: A brake cable connecting device for fastening a brake cable to a brake lever in a blind manner reduces cost and weight of the brake device. The connecting device is formed of a U-shaped channel provided on a free end of the brake lever and a guide unit for automatically attaching the brake cable to the free end of the brake lever when the brake cable is pushed toward the brake lever. The guide unit made separately from the brake lever includes a cable retaining groove bent into U-shape and mounted in the channel of the brake lever, a guide member for guiding the brake cable toward the free end of the brake lever, and a ramped surface for deflecting the brake cable when the brake cable moves along the surface thereof for generating a return force in the brake cable. The brake cable snaps in the cable retaining groove by the return force when an end thereof passes the peak of the ramped surface.
