Abstract: A stand-alone video receiver, having a simplified user interface and control system, is connected to a video recording and reproducing apparatus (recorder), having a more complex user interface and control system, and both the receiver and the recorder are controlled through the complex user interface and control system of the recorder while the user interface and control system of the receiver are disabled.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for processing moving image data so as to obtain stationary image data representative of a desired image frame which is suitable for display on a display device. A moving portion of the image data corresponding to the desired image frame is detected and the image data corresponding to the detected moving portion is interpolated in accordance with a predetermined interpolation technique. A stationary image corresponding to the interpolated image data may be displayed on the display device with relatively high quality. The motion detection and field interpolation processing may eliminate or reduce stripes or the like which may otherwise be present in the displayed stationary image due to a deviation of the image data between the fields of the respective frame. Coefficients utilized for the motion detecting processing may be taken from previously stored values or may be set by an operator.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling an audio video (AV) system having a number of AV devices so as to cause power to be turned off to the AV devices upon the occurrence of predetermined events. That is, power for the AV devices may be turned off: (i) when a video signal is no longer being transmitted between selected AV devices, (ii) when a recording medium of one of a recording AV device and a reproducing AV device that perform a dubbing operation is at its end position, and (iii) when a predetermined time has elapsed.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for transferring from a broadcaster to a receiver a limited reproduction right in data. A signal indicating the limited reproduction right is transmitted by the broadcaster and stored by the receiver with the data. The receiver reproduces and processes the data as a function of this signal.

Abstract: An information storage device randomly accesses data items in a sequential access storage medium. A controller, upon loading of the sequential access storage medium, causes the blocks of data items in the sequential access storage medium to be copied to corresponding blocks on the random access storage medium whose correspondence is established by the table. A table establishes the correspondence between blocks of data items in the random access storage medium and blocks of data items in the sequential access storage medium. Upon receiving an instruction from a host computer, the controller further performs a series of read/write operations on the blocks of data items in the random access storage medium. The overwritten blocks of data items on the random access storage medium are updated to the corresponding blocks on the sequential access storage medium.

Abstract: A video data communication system and method are disclosed which provides for the secure transmission of video data among devices connected to a video data bus. The video data is transmitted with address information corresponding to a particular device or, alternatively, video data is encrypted and transmitted on the data bus without address information.
