  • Patent number: 5053611
Abstract: A recording and reproducing device for a magneto-optical card includes an optical head for irradiating a magneto-optical recording medium of a magneto-optical card placed into the device with a laser beam. A magnetic field generator applies a biased magnetic field to the magneto-optical recording medium, and an optical system manipulating mechanism for the optical system of the above-mentioned optical head varies the spot irradiated by the laser beam. The optical head is fixed to the main frame of the device. The magneto-optical card is also supported where it is irradiated by the laser beam emitted from the optical head. The magneto-optical card is moved in a plane parallel to the surface of the magneto-optical card for rough searching and then a part of or the whole magnetic field generator is moved to come into contact with the magneto-optical card to stop the vibration of the magneto-optical card.

  • Patent number: 5053252
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing an optical memory device. The method comprises the steps of forming a secondary medium layer on a substrate and forming on the substrate guide track grooves for guiding a light beam, both steps being carried out in a single vacuum chamber. The step of forming the guide track grooves comprises heating the substrate to soften the same and pressurizing the substrate by a pressure roller having transcribed patterns corresponding to the guide track grooves on its cylindrical surface.

  • Patent number: 5002813
Abstract: A substrate for manufacturing an optical memory device includes one surface covered with a protective film provided with openings only in portions corresponding to recording layers to be formed on the substrate, thereby allowing the protective film to function as a mask for forming the recording layers in a recording layer forming process. Also disclosed is a method of manufacturing an optical memory device including the steps of continuously feeding a substrate covered with a protective film provided with openings only in portions corresponding to recording layers to be formed on the substrate, forming the recording layers through the openings on the substrate, forming guide tracks on the substrate, stripping the protective film from the substrate, cutting the substrate to a predetermined size, and forming a protective layer on the substrate.
