  • Patent number: 7163723
Abstract: A phase difference film which comprises a liquid crystal film having a liquid crystal comprised of a cellulose derivative as a liquid crystal compound (cellulose derivative liquid crystal) being oriented in a specific direction, preferably said phase difference film wherein said orientation in a specific direction is fixed. In said liquid crystal film, through changing appropriately the molecular weight of the cellulose derivative, the composition of the liquid crystal, the degree of the orientation, and the like, films having various wave length dispersion characteristics can be prepared with ease, and further a phase difference film satisfying the following relationship: ?n450=?n550=?n650 (1) wherein ?n550 represents a double refractive index at a wave length of 550 nm, ?n450 represents a double refractive index at a wave length of 450 nm, and ?n650 represents a double refractive index at a wave length of 650 nm, can be prepared without laminating a plurality of phase difference films.

  • Patent number: 5706131
Abstract: A polarizing element or polarizing plate comprising a layer having photoactive molecules and a layer containing dichroic molecules formed in contact with said layer, which can easily be produced without a stretching procedure so as to have a complicated pattern, a curved surface or a large area; and a process for producing said polarizing element or polarizing plate which is characterized by irradiating a layer having photoactive molecules on a substrate with linear polarized light, and then forming a dichroic molecular layer on the irradiated layer.

  • Patent number: 4964898
Abstract: An improved apparatus for separating impurities from a stream of forced air by gravitational and centrifugal forces subjecting the air stream through a mesh coalescer to coalesce micro impurities of moisture or oil into large droplets which are forced through a helical passaway to condense into liquid. The separated liquid flows downwardly through a liquid protective unit into a liquid storage trap at the bottom of the device. The separated liquid when in the protective unit is free from the moving stream of forced air as latter swirls upwardly into an air filter and escape from an outlet port. The air stream once passed through the mesh coalescer, helical conduit and air filter is substantially free from any impurity.
