  • Publication number: 20050179678
Abstract: In display device comprising a reflection element whose display state is changed by the application of the electric field, and a photoconductive layer whose conductivity is changed by the application of light, a drive voltage is applied to the reflection element and the photoconductive layer, and writing light is applied selectively to the photoconductive layer, whereby the electric field to be applied to the reflection element in a region where the writing light has been applied is changed, and when a prescribed image is written in the reflection element, the writing light is applied after the photoconductive layer is charged for a prescribed charging period of time. Thus, the print concentration can be stabilized, and the contrast can be improved.

  • Publication number: 20050162500
Abstract: A recording device comprises a display, a photoconductor superposed on the display, and a pair of electrodes disposed on both sides of the display and photoconductor. At least one of the electrodes is divided into sub-electrodes. Information can be written into the recording device by means of light while applying a voltage to each sub-electrode. Therefore, information is not written into part of the recording device corresponding to the sub-element to which no voltage is applied even if extraneous light is applied. As a result a sharp image with no noise can be formed. The recording device also comprises a feed member for applying a voltage to a pair of electrodes of such a recording device, a first light source for writing information in the recording device, and a second light source for reset. Consequently, reset and recording can be done in one cycle.

  • Publication number: 20040223098
Abstract: A display device displaying a color by mixing light reflected by a first reflection element 22 and light reflected by a second reflection element 26 by additive color mixture, in which the light of a first wavelength reflected by the first reflection element and light of a second wavelength reflected by the second reflection element have a mutually complementary color relationship. Thus, the display device, which can make good black and white display by a simple structure and can be driven by a simple method, can be realized.

  • Publication number: 20040196230
Abstract: A display device comprising an electrode 12, an electrode 16 and a liquid crystal layer 18 which is formed between the electrode 12 and the electrode 16 and change a display state corresponding to a voltage applied between the electrode 12 and the electrode 16, the display device further comprises a piezoelectric element 24 for producing a drive voltage signal which abruptly increases up to a prescribed voltage value and then gradually attenuates, a phase difference generating circuit 26 which, from the drive voltage signal produced by the piezoelectric element 24, generates and outputs a first voltage signal and a second voltage signal having a phase difference from the first voltage signal. The first voltage signal is applied to the electrode 12, and the second voltage signal is applied to the electrode 16. Thus, the orientation state of the chiral nematic liquid crystal can be changed without using an expensive electric power source.

  • Patent number: 6723474
Abstract: A method of fabricating a diffraction grating by utilizing a single substrate comprises the steps of forming a photosensitive material layer and a light transmission reducing film having a predetermined pattern integrally with each other on the substrate, exposing the photosensitive material layer by exposure irradiation light via the light transmission reducing film, and developing the photosensitive material layer after exposure. It is composed so that the direction of exposure and the direction of development are opposite to each other. It is possible to fabricate a diffraction grating in which each grating is formed on a predetermined substrate at a predetermined pitch and a root portion in a cross-section of each diffraction grating is constricted. In this way, it is possible to reduce or eliminate interfaces, so that the generation of noise light can be effectively suppressed and a diffraction grating having a high diffraction efficiency can be made.

  • Patent number: 6081377
Abstract: Light emitted from a light source is separated into ordinary light and extraordinary light by a polarization separation element including a polarized light synthesizing device. The ordinary light is regulated in a direction of the polarization plane by a phase difference plate provided on an aperture member so that the polarization plane becomes the same as the extraordinary light. The lights are then converted into a parallel luminous flux through a condenser lens, and then selectively passed through a liquid crystal panel in accordance with an image so that a large image plane of the image is displayed on a screen.

  • Patent number: 6061083
Abstract: Images of an object are taken from a plurality of angles so as to generate two-dimensional images obtained from the plurality of angles. The two-dimensional images are sequentially displayed in the form of stripes by a displaying device. The two-dimensional images displayed by the displaying device are deflected by a parallel scanning part by a deflection angle dependent on the individual two-dimensional images and supplied to respective virtual apertures.

  • Patent number: 5982342
Abstract: A parallax image generator establishes a plurality of projected regions around a display in predetermined intervals and generates a plurality of parallax images having different parallaxes due to being seen from respective points of view. In addition, pixels of the plurality of parallax images occupying the same position are gathered together in a pixel block, and are mapped to rendering memory corresponding to the display. A parallax image display unit displays mapped images in the rendering memory, projects the light from a pixel toward the projected region corresponding to each parallax image per pixel of the plurality of parallax images in each pixel block, and makes a 3-D image observed by positioning both eyes of an observer in adjacent projected regions and projecting the parallax images.

  • Patent number: 5872590
Abstract: A position of an observer in a stereoscopic observing region is detected by a position detecting unit. A right-eye image and a left-eye image which are seen from the detecting position are formed by an image forming unit and displayed on a display. By setting an aperture position of a projection optical system, the right-eye image is projected to the right-eye position of the observer and the left-eye image is projected to the left-eye position, thereby allowing a stereoscopic image to be observed. Further, an aperture is set so as to project the right-eye image or left-eye image to a position different from the detecting position of the observer, thereby allowing a same image to be seen to both eyes of another observer and allowing a two-dimensional image to be observed.
