Patent number: 7940497Abstract: A magnetic head device is provided. A slider of a magnetic head device has a side that faces a recording medium and on which a first positive pressure is exerted on the leading side and a second positive pressure is exerted on the trailing side. In the area between the first positive pressure area and the second positive pressure area, a small second negative pressure is created at the front. A first negative pressure larger than the second negative pressure is created at the rear. A third positive pressure is exerted on both sides of the first negative pressure area. When air density decreases, the small second negative pressure in a middle area and the large first negative pressure at the rear of the second negative pressure area stabilize the pitch angle of the slider and prevent an excessive decrease in the flying distance of a trailing end portion.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2006Date of Patent: May 10, 2011Assignee: TDK CorporationInventors: Yasuyuki Kondo, Junsei Ueda, Shouhei Ueda, legal representative, Mihoko Ueda, legal representative, Hirohisa Ishihara

Patent number: 7499245Abstract: On a disk-facing surface of a magnetic head slider, rail surfaces that are at the same height as a magnetic device surface and raised leading surfaces connect the magnetic device surface to the raised leading surfaces. Moreover, a central step surface at a level lower than the magnetic device surface and higher than a recessed area extends from an area between the raised leading surfaces to an area between the rail surfaces. Therefore, even if the amount of Air intake is reduced due to atmospheric pressure changes or the like, air can be efficiently guided to the magnetic device surface and thus, the flying position of the magnetic head slider can be stabilized.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2006Date of Patent: March 3, 2009Assignee: TDK CorporationInventors: Shouhei Ueda, legal representative, Mihoko Ueda, legal representative, Yasuyuki Kondo, legal representative, Junsei Ueda

Patent number: 7145752Abstract: A magnetic head apparatus including a magnetic head slider having an overall front half region area (S) and a step surface area (S1) and a positive-pressure generating surface area (S2) both in the front half region, such that the area ratio S1/S is about 0.180 to about 0.232 and the area ratio S1/S2 is about 0.30 to about 0.47. With this arrangement a difference in pitch angles of the magnetic head slider at the moment when it is just levitated and during levitation is large, and a variation of the pitch angle due to a pressure change is small, thereby preventing damage to a magnetic element within the magnetic head slider while achieving a stable levitation attitude of the magnetic head slider.Type: GrantFiled: April 5, 2004Date of Patent: December 5, 2006Assignee: Alps Electric Co., Ltd.Inventors: Junsei Ueda, Hirohisa Ishihara, Yasuyuki Kondo, Satoshi Morikawa, Keishi Nakashima

Patent number: 6975487Abstract: In a magnetic head, a center pad provided with a magnetic core is formed at the center of an edge at a trailing side of the recording medium opposing surface of a slider body. Two side pads are formed at both ends in the direction of the width at positions closer to a leading side than the center pad is located. A total value of the areas of the recording medium opposing surfaces of the two side pads is set to be larger than a value of the area of the recording medium opposing surface of the center pad. Each of the side pads has, at the leading side, a front stepped surface that is lower than the remaining portion.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 2003Date of Patent: December 13, 2005Assignee: Alps Electric Co., Ltd.Inventors: Junsei Ueda, Yasuyuki Kondo

Publication number: 20050186380Abstract: The upper surface of a recording medium includes a contact start stop (CSS) zone where projections are provided, and a data zone where data is recorded. The upper surface of the CSS zone is lower than the upper surface of the data zone. The upper surfaces of the projections are higher than the upper surface of the data zone.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 15, 2005Publication date: August 25, 2005Inventor: Junsei Ueda

Patent number: 6839203Abstract: A trailing ABS face, which is a surface generating positive pressure, is formed to rise from a surface facing a recording medium, which is a surface generating negative pressure, toward the recording medium and furthermore, a surface facing the element, in which a gap portion of a magnetic element is located, is formed to rise from the trailing ABS face. Thereby, the floating lift of a magnetic head can be reduced while the floating position can be stabilized and furthermore, collision of the magnetic head with a disk surface can be properly avoided.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2003Date of Patent: January 4, 2005Assignee: Alps Electric Co., Ltd.Inventors: Junsei Ueda, Tomoo Otsuka, Hirohisa Ishihara
