Abstract: Biocontrol compositions effective as fruit fly oviposition deterrents are disclosed. Compositions comprising at least two coconut free fatty acids (CFA), caprylic acid (C8:0) and capric acid (C10:0), and optionally a carrier are shown to be effective drosophilid oviposition-deterrents. Furthermore, other specific CFA are shown to reduce female B. dorsalis, Z. cucurbitae, and D. suzukii attraction and oviposition in response to host fruit odors. Kits comprising such biocontrol compositions, and methods of using such biocontrol compositions to reduce the population of fruit flies are also taught.

Abstract: An adhesive film for attracting and capturing flying insects and method of use are disclosed. The adhesive film includes an adhesive material, an olfactory attractant, a visual attractant and a tackifier. The method of use includes a barrier style trap or a log roll comprised of an adhesive film for attracting and capturing flying insects wound onto a central cylindrical core. The adhesive film may be unwound and attached to a second mounting apparatus. The log roll may be comprised of a continuous sheet of perforated adhesive film which comprises individual sheets wound, which may be removed from the log roll when the adhesiveness of the outer sheet is exhausted, exposing a fresh sheet.

Abstract: Methods for repelling or killing insects, said method comprising treating an object or area with a composition comprising an insects repelling or killing effective amount of at least one compound selected from the group consisting of a C8 or C9 or C10 or C11 or C12 or C13 straight or branched chain free fatty acid, methyl ester or ethyl ester or propyl ester or isopropyl ester or 2-ethyl hexyl ester of said acid, salts of said acid, and mixtures thereof, and optionally a carrier. The term “insects” as used herein includes non-insects such as ticks, mites, spiders, centipedes, scorpions, chiggers, and solifugids.
