  • Publication number: 20050039623
Abstract: An initiator employs ignition powder which can be manufactured easily, which can be handled safely, and which is stored in a cup of the initiator. Pins are inserted into and secured to holes of a header in the initiator. Distal end surfaces of the pins are flush with a distal end surface of the header; an insulative membrane is disposed so as to cover the distal end surface of one of the pins. When a high-voltage is applied between the pins, the membrane is destroyed and plasma is created. Further, when a subsequent low-voltage is applied between the pins, plasma is continuously generated. The ignition powder initiates its reaction by heat of the plasma.

  • Publication number: 20040141279
Abstract: An initiator and gas generator using the initiator. An initiator includes a conductive header, a reactant disposed on one side of the header, a cover member for covering the reactant, an electrode pin extending through the header to protrude from the other side of the header, and insulated from the header, a heating member provided between the one side of the header and the electrode pin so as to generate heat by the application of electricity, a cylindrical terminal protruding from the other side of the header coaxially with the electrode pin, and a connector-retaining portion provided at a leading end of the cylindrical terminal. The electrode pin and the cylindrical terminal are coaxial, the initiator can be mounted in an initiator housing in whatever direction it points, and the efficiency in mounting the initiator in the initiator housing is high. The size of the connector is also reduced.

  • Publication number: 20040123765
Abstract: A gas generator which has an initiator and a gas generating agent for use in airbag deployment systems. An initiator includes a reaction agent, a casing formed by a cup and header, an electrode and a plasma generating agent. The plasma generating agent generates a plasma in response to the energization of the electrode that makes the reaction agent initiate a reaction.

  • Publication number: 20030150348
Abstract: An initiator includes a casing, a reactant disposed in the casing, and electrodes arranged to contact the reactant. The reactant contains an electrically conductive substance in a manner such that once a voltage is applied to the electrodes, an electric current flows through the electrically conductive substance, thereby initiating a reaction of the reactant. The initiator is easily manufactured with low manufacturing cost.

  • Publication number: 20020189487
Abstract: A gas generator includes a first cup 10 packed with gas generating agent 14 that generates gas by burning; a second cup E disposed in an inside of the first cup 10 and containing ignition agent; and a holder 9 holding the first cup 10 thereon and also holding a plug B of the second cup E or the second cup thereon. In the gas generator, there is provided a separator 15 which allows the gas generating agent 14 to be confined within the first cup 10 so as to shield the gas generating agent from the second cup E. Further, the separator 15 is so disposed as to cover the second cup E. In addition, seal materials, such as an O-ring 16, is arranged in a moisture inflow path through which moisture or equivalent comes in from outside of the gas generator 18.
