At least the lower portion of the body has a rectangular flat cross-section defined by opposed short-side walls and long-side walls. Discharge ports are formed at lower ends of the short-side walls and communicate with the flow passage. Guide plates are positioned near the discharge ports, each plate joining the opposed long-side walls and directing molten steel toward a corresponding discharge port. The geometry of the lower portion, including the spacing of the guide plates, controls flow distribution.
