    Abstract: A safety device for control of a roller rotary printing machine includes a plurality of sensors positioned either before or behind a web advancing device for recognizing tears or other damages in a region of the edges of the advancing web, an evaluation device having an input connected to the sensors and an output at which an impulse-like control signal is issued, and a switching device connected to the output of the evaluation device and arranged in a path of the web of the printing machine. The switching device is adapted for an abrupt lowering of a web tension upon receiving the signal from the evaluation device.
