  • Patent number: 4530990
Abstract: A process is described for the preparation of predominantly linear polyurethane solutions which comprises(a) reacting(A) an organic diisocyanate or diisocyanate mixture optionally containing small portions of a triisocyanate with(B) one or more polyhydroxyl compounds which are predominantly bifunctional and generally have molecular weights of from about 400 to 5000 and(C) optionally one or more chain lengthening agents having at least two isocyanate reactive hydrogen atoms and molecular weights of from about 32 to 399,wherein the proportion of isocyanate groups to the number of isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms is in the range of from about 0.9:1 to 1:0.9, and(b) when the polyurethane formed has reached the required viscosity, adding a monofunctional, low molecular weight oxime having a molecular weight of from about 73 to 325, preferably butanone oxime, to the reaction mixture as chain breaking agent in a quantity equivalent to or in excess of the equivalents of unreacted isocyanate groups.

  • Patent number: 4401801
Abstract: This invention relates to coating agents and dressing agents for leather and leather substitutes with improved resistance to plasticizer migration, greater hardness and folding strength, a dry hand and resistance to aqueous alcoholic solutions, based on linear or only slightly branched thermoplastic polyurethane ureas built up from the following components(A) at least two macrodiols in a molar ratio of from about 1:6 to 6:1, one of which macrodiols(1) has an average molecular weight of from about 254 to 650 and contains at least one benzene, cyclohexane or cyclohexene ring, while(2) the second macrodiol has an average molecular weight in the range of from about 1200 to 3000 but has at least three times the molecular weight of A/l, and which contain(B) from about 0.

  • Patent number: 4269748
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of aqueous solutions or dispersions of polyurethanes, in which process prepolymers which have at least two free isocyanate groups and contain chemically-fixed hydrophilic groups and/or external emulsifiers which are not chemically fixed are reacted with chain lengthening agents in the aqueous phase, characterized in that the isocyanate prepolymer which is hydrophilically modified and/or contains an external emulsifier is mixed with chain lengthening agents selected from the group consisting of azines and hydrazones in the absence of water and the mixture obtained is then mixed with water. The present invention also relates to the dispersions or solutions which can be obtained by this process. Lastly, this invention relates to the use of the dispersions or solutions which can be obtained by this process for coating flexible substrates.

  • Patent number: 4108814
Abstract: This invention relates to a process for the production of water dispersible polyurethanes by reacting polyisocyanates with sulphonate group containing diols. The sulphonate diols have the general formula: ##STR1## WHEREIN A and B, which may be the same or different, each represents a divalent aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms,R represents hydrogen, an aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a phenyl group,X.sup.(+) represents an alkali metal cation or ammonium group which may be substitutedn and m, which may be the same or different, each represents an integer between 0 and 30 inclusive,o and p, represent 0 or 1, andq represents an integer of 0 or 2.Sufficient amounts of this diol are used to provide the final polymer with a sulphonate group content of about 0.1 to 6 wt.%. In a preferred embodiment, a prepolymer is formed in substance with the sulphonate bearing diol, the polyisocyanate and optionally other reactive hydrogen bearing compounds.

  • Patent number: 4035213
Abstract: This invention relates to the coating of textile sheets with polyurethane pastes by the reversal process for producing very soft coating articles with a hand resembling that of napa leather. The particular properties of the coating are obtained by using bonding pastes which contain a mixture which can be cross-linked by the action of heat, consisting of polyurethane hydrazodicarbonamides and melamine-formaldehyde resins and/or urea-formaldehyde resins.
