  • Publication number: 20040095077
Abstract: Proposed is a method of operating a gas discharge lamp, preferably a fluorescent lamp (10), in which the lamp is at least partly operated with a dc voltage component and voltage pulses are superimposed on that dc voltage component which can be reduced to zero. A power supply unit (11) for carrying out the method is designed in such a way that a running voltage source (13) for supplying the dc voltage and a pulse source (12) for supplying the voltage pulses are provided or can be connected.

  • Patent number: 5663291
Abstract: A process for obtaining insulin having correctly linked cystine bridges from a corresponding proinsulin amino acid chain in the presence of mercaptan, chaotropic auxiliaries and at a pH of 10 to 11 is described, as well as the direct conversion of the proinsulin to insulin with the aid of enzymes and direct isolation of the insulin from the reaction mixture with the aid of hydrophobic adsorber resins.

  • Patent number: 5175471
Abstract: A circuit arrangement for the operation of a fluorescent lamp which is connectable to an alternating-current power supply, for example, the elctrical power supply on board an aircraft, including a switch which is located between the lamp electrodes, and which is actuatable through the intermediary of a control circuit whereby the lamp electrodes are heated when the switch is closed. A measuring element which is connected to the input of the control circuit determines the decreasing voltage at least at one of the lamp electrodes, and the control circuit will open the switch for the ignition of the fluorescent lamp only when the determined voltage is essentially constant, or has reached a threshold value.

  • Patent number: 4681931
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the isolation and purification of .alpha.-interferons generated by plasmids from bacterial cultures which have been modified by genetic engineering, and of .alpha.-interferons from culture supernatants of induced mammalian cells, which comprises partition of appropriate crude substances containing interferon between an aqueous urea solution, which contains a surfactant, and a mixture of n-butanol and glacial acetic acid which contains water, and isolation of the purified .alpha.-interferons from the upper phase.
