  • Patent number: 7298549
Abstract: A confocal microscope has a specimen holding device for holding a specimen (18). The specimen (18) is illuminated by an illuminating unit (10). An optics unit (12) serves to direct radiation produced by the illuminating unit (10) toward the specimen (18) and to direct the radiation emitted by the specimen toward a detector unit (20). The confocal microscope also comprises an aperture diaphragm (34) that is placed in the beam path in front of the detector unit (20). In addition, a focusing lens (30) is provided in the beam path in front of the aperture diaphragm (34). The focusing lens (30) can be moved in order to adjust the confocal microscope, for example, in order to compensate for thermal stresses.

  • Publication number: 20070053500
Abstract: A gantry for a computed tomography apparatus has a rotary carriage that is rotatable around an axis and a support ring arranged around the rotary carriage with a circumferential cooling channel. The support ring has a number of openings distributed around its circumference and forming a non-uniform opening pattern. The rotary carriage likewise has inflow and outflow openings that, in operation, overlap the openings on the stationary part of the computed tomography apparatus such that a coolant flows through between the support ring and the rotary carriage. A steady pressure fluctuation that leads to a reduction of the noise stress in operation ensues thanks to the non-uniform opening pattern.

  • Patent number: 7177339
Abstract: A semiconductor laser has implantation regions that are effective as mode-selective regions in addition to current diaphragms in the edge region of a mesa. As a result, the inner opening of the current diaphragms can be chosen to be larger than in the prior art. This leads to a low ohmic and thermal resistance and enables a high output power.

  • Publication number: 20060120513
Abstract: In an adjustment device and method for a tomography apparatus for aligning of a patient support device and an acquisition system relative to one another, a reference laser projects onto a reference element associated with the patient support device, the reference laser being directly associated with a rotary frame of the acquisition system, such that tolerances in the alignment between the reference laser and the acquisition system are prevented. Moreover, due to the arrangement of the reference laser directly on the rotary frame of the tomography apparatus, a simple calibration between laser beam and the acquisition plane of the acquisition system is ensured by a displacement of the reference laser in two different rotation angle positions which exhibit an angular interval therebetween of substantially 180 degrees.

  • Publication number: 20060102317
Abstract: The invention relates to an electromagnetic braking device for molten steel that flows into a continuous casting mould (1). Said device comprises at least one solenoid (2) with a ferromagnetic core (5) that is allocated to the broad sides (3, 4) of the mould. To reduce the oscillating mass and at the same time increase the strength of the magnetic field, the core (5) consists of a primary part (6) that houses the solenoid (2) and can be displaced at a distance from the broad side walls (3, 4) and attachments (8, 8?) that are fixed in water tanks (7, 7?) of the mould (1). When combined in their operating position, the core parts (6, 8) produce U-shaped yokes (9, 9?) for generating a closed magnetic flux (10) and when moved apart, cause the magnetic flux (10) to be interrupted.
