  • Publication number: 20090280705
Abstract: Method and system for detecting danger of drowning for a person in water. The method may comprise: determining whether the person is located in the water, measuring the pulse of the person, determining the position of the person, monitoring the capacity of an energy source on the person, transferring data from the person to a receiver on exceeding a boundary value of a pre-determined parameter, a gas chamber on the person is filled with gas and thereby buoyancy is generated, as well as optionally activating an alarm in the receiver. The method may further comprise measuring breathing frequency of the person, measuring pressure at the water depth of the person, measuring body position of the person, and comparing boundary value data and generated data to each other in an evaluation/signal unit as well as when the gas chamber is filled with gas and/or the alarm is activated.

  • Publication number: 20060169432
Abstract: A method of preparing modified cellulose pulp using arabinoxyolans is described. The method involves contacting, (i) an arabinoxylan with (ii) a cellulose pulp. The arabinoxylan of the process is in a form selected from a concentrated solution comprising arabinoxylan or a suspension comprising arabinoxylan. Also described are: a modified cellulose pulp prepared according to the present invention; and a particular arabinoxylan having on its main chain 5 to 20% arabinose substituents, and less than 5% 4-O-methylglucuronic acid substituents, (the percent weights being based on the total weight of the arabinoxylan).

  • Publication number: 20060128952
Abstract: A process of recovering hemicellulose from lignocellulosic material (e.g., oat husks) is described. The process involves: (a) contacting lignocellulose with an aqueous alkaline solution, thereby forming an alkaline extract; and (b) contacting the alkaline extract with a precipitation bath that includes water and an organic liquid A which is miscible with water, thereby forming a precipitate comprising hemicellulose. In the method of the present invention: (i) the alkaline extract is not neutralised prior to contact with the precipitation bath; and (ii) after completion of precipitation step-(b) the precipitation bath includes organic liquid A in an amount of from 25 wt. % to 70 wt. %, based on the weight of the precipitation bath.

  • Patent number: 5419516
Abstract: A device for coupling at least two spacecrafts, the latter being connected by means of at least two tether lines, between which a plurality of cross-connections are provided which run parallel to each other at a right-angle or any other angle to the tether lines so that the length of the coupled tether lines is far greater than the dimensions transverse to the imaginary longitudinal axis of the tether system. By the introduction and use of such multiple tether systems a redundant system has been made available for tether technology. As a result, the probability of failure or dropout of such a multiple tether system has been greatly reduced or largely excluded.

  • Patent number: 5239154
Abstract: Pipe-welding apparatus with a centering device for centering the pipe-welding apparatus relative to a pipe which is to be welded to an end-plate. The centering device is provided with a tubular center part which supports two pairs of sleeves arranged axially next to one another, the one sleeve in each pair being rigidly connected to the center part and the other sleeve being slidingly displaceable along the center part. A number of balls located between the sleeves in each pair of sleeves is arranged to interact yieldingly with the mutually facing end surfaces of the pair of sleeves, the axial separation of which increases in the direction towards the periphery of the device. The displaceable sleeve is located in a spring sleeve which is mounted on the center part and encloses a spring arranged to press the displaceable sleeve towards the fixed sleeve, the spring sleeve being mounted at a fixed distance from the end surface of the fixed sleeve, which distance is smaller than the diameter of the balls.
