  • Patent number: 5042373
Abstract: A guard at the inlet side of the nip of two rolls in a calender has a hollow support for two blocking devices with movable sections extending close to the peripheral surfaces of the rolls to prevent injury to the fingers of an operator. The support defines one or more channels for steam or for another fluid medium which is discharged through one or more rows of ports to moisturize a running web of paper, foil or textile material or to dry, heat or cool the web and/or the rolls.

  • Patent number: 4941607
Abstract: A magazine for storage of elastic supercalender rolls has two upright frame members each of which carries several tracks at different levels and reciprocable roll holders in the tracks. Chains are provided to move the holders between extended position, in which they are accesible for reception of rolls from a supercalender or from another location, and retracted positions in which the axes of stored rolls are located in a common vertical plane. Each holder on one of the frame members is located at the level of a holder on the other frame member. Movements of holders on one of the frame members are synchronized with movement of corresponding holders on the other frame member.

  • Patent number: 4932536
Abstract: A magazine for temporary storage of elastic supercalender rolls has a frame for a rotor which can be driven to rotate about a horizontal axis and has two axially spaced-apart sections each carrying a set of equidistant cradles for the end portions of rolls. Each cradle has a socket for the end portion of a roll, and the cradles are maintained in such orientation that the open sides of their sockets face upwardly while the rotor turns about the horizontal axis and the cradles orbit about such axis. A stationary inflatable tire is mounted in the frame to rotate the rolls about their respective axes while the rotor is caused to rotate about the horizontal axis.

  • Patent number: 4932827
Abstract: An apparatus for exchanging elastic rolls in a supercalender has a platform which is movable up and down between the frame of a supercalender and a magazine for spare rolls. The platform supports two cracks with horizontally movable guides for two supports which can engage the end portions of an elastic roll from below before the guides and the supports are moved horizontally to transfer the roll from the supercalender, across the platform and into the magazine. In order to temporarily detach guide rolls which are installed in front of elastic rolls, the platform further supports two tracks for jaw-shaped supports for the end portions of a guide roll which is transferred into the apparatus and remains in the apparatus at a level above the tracks for the supports which transfer elastic rolls.

  • Patent number: 4924772
Abstract: A calender wherein the intermediate rolls of a stack of rolls are mounted on pairs of levers pivotable on carriages which are movable up and down in vertical ways provided therefor in the frame. This renders it possible to change the levels of the intermediate rolls without any or without appreciable shifting of the centers of nips of neighboring rolls from a common vertical plane. The carriages are suspended on composite feed screws which can be rotated to move neighboring carriages nearer to or further away from each other.

  • Patent number: 4171107
Abstract: A winding-up device for paper webs, especially wide paper webs, on a driven cylinder with a guiding roller which is adapted in response to an increase in the diameter of the wound up web material by means of two cylinder-piston units to be tilted away from the cylinder shaft while a constant distance is maintained between the guiding roller and the surface of the wound-up webs. The device comprises two pitot heads or tubes respectively radially directed toward each end of the cylinder and toward the wound-up webs. The device furthermore comprises two converter containers individually connected to the cylinder chambers on both sides of the piston of the hydraulic cylinder piston units, and acted upon by different pressures. The winding-up device also has a 2/2 way valve and a parallelly arranged check valve while the pitot head and the converter containers are adapted together to be connected to a compressed air network.
