  • Patent number: 5316230
Abstract: When a web of packaging material is fed to a folding turret (11), it is intended to change the web of material when the reel is empty with as little manual labour as possible. For this purpose, there is provided a severing and connecting unit (17), in which a running-off web (15) is automatically severed and connected to a connecting web (16) which is held ready. In order to join the webs in the proper position, a marking (mark 43) of the running-web (15) is scanned while the conveying speed is greatly reduced. After the marking has been detected, the web is stopped and the severing cut is applied while it is simultaneously joined to the connecting web (16) which is held ready precisely in the proper position. During this change of webs, the folding turret (11) can continue to operate, if a sufficient web store is present. It is, however, also possible to employ a loop store (18) with a smaller capacity ana to stop the folding turret (11) or a blank unit (12) for producing blanks for a short period.

  • Patent number: 5165545
Abstract: Stacks of folded paper tissues are usually enwrapped with a thin foil, thus forming a soft pack. Lately these packs are provided with a reclosable opening aid. This opening aid can be arranged in the region of a narrow longitudinal face of the pack, with an outer folding flap (18) at the same time serving as closing flap (23). In order to facilitate handling and to ensure a higher stability of the pack, the opening aid is designed such that only a portion of the outer folding flap (18) is formed as a closing flap (23), while the inner continuous folding flap (17) remains in the original pack position even when the pack is opened. The ends of the folding flap (17) are anchored to marginal side cross-strips (28, 29) of the outer folding flap (18). A recess (29) arranged preferably central in the region of the inner folding flap (17) and being open towards the free edge expediently enlarges the extraction opening (30) for the paper tissues.

  • Patent number: 5135103
Abstract: A reel-change device for feeding high-performance packaging machines with web-like packaging material wound to form reels (11, 11a, 12), wherein one of two working journals (13, 14) is resupplied with a ("full") reel (11a), while the other working journal carries the working reel (12) which is feeding the packaging machine. The new reels (11a) are extracted from a reel stock (18) by means of a transport arm (21) with a transport journal (22) and are pivoted to one side or the other in order to be brought into a position equiaxial with the one working journal which has been emptied (13, 14). When there is correct alignment, the reel (11a) is pushed onto the empty working journal (13, 14). For this purpose, the transport art (21) is pivotable and can be shifted axis-parallel relative to the working journals (13, 14).

  • Patent number: 5092103
Abstract: Apparatus for the feeding of packaging blanks to a folding unit. In the production of (film) packs, especially for stacks of paper handkerchiefs, blanks are severed from a continuously supplied web of material and fed to a folding member, especially a folding turret (11) for wrapping the paper handkerchiefs and folding the blank (10). When there is a momentary interruption in the feed of articles to be wrapped to the folding turret (11), the production and conveyance of blanks (10) are also to be interrupted. For this purpose, a fixedly located counter knife (22) of a severing station (16) is temporarily movable out of the operative or cutting position, so that, despite the fact that a knife roller (21) with cutting knives (23, 24) continues to run, a severing cut is not made in the stationary web of material (12). For this purpose, a support for the counter knife (22) is equipped with an adjusting mechanism acting in a pulsatory manner.

  • Patent number: 4885895
Abstract: During the wrapping of articles (stack 10) in blanks (11), the latter are severed from a web of material (21) and fed to a folding turret (13). When the delivery of articles (10) to be wrapped is interrupted, the severing of blanks (11) and the feeding of these to the folding turret (13) are also interrupted. For this pupose, while knife rollers (26, 29) continue to run, the web of material (21) is stopped after it has been conveyed beyond the severing point an amount corresponding to a follow-up portion (44). The knives (severing knives 30) of the knife rollers (26, 29) rotating further are moved out of their cutting position.

  • Patent number: 4845924
Abstract: In the production of packs for stacks (10) of paper handkerchiefs, the problem is to give the cuboid pack an exact shape. Whe a stack of paper handkerchiefs is pushed into a pocket (13) of a folding turret (12), the stack (10) is compressed by a press plate (22) movable up and down in the peripheral direction of the folding turret (12) and, in this compressed form, is pushed into the pocket (13) together with a blank (11). On the opposite side of the folding turret, the virtually finished pack is pushed in the radial direction out of the pocket (13) and onto a push-out platform (48) which moves up and down along the periphery of the folding turret and which is temporarily, in particular during the reception of the pack, in synchronism with the folding turret (12). During a standstill phase of the push-out platform, the pack is transferred from the latter to a discharge conveyor (49).
