    Abstract: The tie rod in the steering system of an automotive vehicle is adjusted by an apparatus whose housing contains two transmissions, one to rotate the tie rod and the other to rotate the lock nut which normally holds the tie rod in a selected angular position. The second transmission can rotate a wrench for the lock nut, and this wrench is slotted to allow for entry of a portion of the tie rod into its socket. A carriage is reciprocable in the housing to shift the wrench axially so that the socket of the wrench can receive or can be moved away from the lock nut.

    Abstract: An apparatus for ascertaining the extent of deviation of the actual position of a hole in a bulky workpiece from the desired position has a mandrel which is reciprocable to move its conical tip into and from the opening. The tip is followed by a main portion which fits snugly into the opening. If the hole is out of position, the mandrel is shifted laterally during penetration of its tip into the hole as a result of sliding movement of the external surface of the tip relative to the surface surrounding the hole. The extent of lateral movement of the mandrel in several direction is monitored by discrete gauges which transmit signals denoting the extent of deviation of actual position of the hole from the desired position in the respective directions.

    Abstract: A tool for ascertaining the location of an elongated corner or edge between two mutually inclined surfaces of a workpiece has a frame which supports two cylinders for reciprocable piston rods whose front end portions abut against a work contacting device having faces, rollers, balls or analogous portions each movable into contact with a different surface of the workpiece when the tool is properly positioned with reference to such surfaces. If the location of the corner deviates from the desired location, one of the aforementioned portions engages the respective surface of the workpiece prior to engagement between the other portion and the corresponding surface of the workpiece whereby the one portion of the work contacting device moves transversely of the path of movement of the corresponding piston rod while the other piston rod continues to move toward the workpiece. The extent of movement of each piston rod is monitored by electronic or other suitable means.
