  • Patent number: 5133262
Abstract: A subcaliber projectile including a penetrator preferably made of tungsten eavy metal, and having a penetrator tip section and a section following thereafter and extending over the major portion of the penetrator length which is provided with an external thread (helical groove) or circumferential annular grooves to provide a form-locking connection with a discardable propelling cage sabot. To realize improved piercing power for the penetrator, the form-locking region is composed of annular grooves without a pitch, or of a fine metric thread having a thread valley, with a width of approximately one to three times the base width of the groove defining wall or of a thread peak. Preferably a more brittle material is employed in the front penetrator region than in the tail region, and a further indentation structure is incorporated in the first frontal thread turns or grooves of the form-locking region.

  • Patent number: 4928598
Abstract: A propelling charge case for a munition, which charge case has a body made of nonwoven nitrocellulose-based fibers and formed to have an axial cross section with at least one curved portion, and a reinforcement member of metal or plastic assembled with the body at the curved portion and configured to not interfere with residue-free combustion of the body.

  • Patent number: 4671181
Abstract: An armor-piercing projectile has a steel jacket threadedly or otherwise positively connected with a core which has a forwardly projecting point and leaves a space to the rear of the jacket receiving an incendiary charge and a winged tail unit mechanically connected with that charge. Upon penetration of an armor plate, the tail unit is torn from the jacket and extracts the incendiary charge which then ignites and destroys the surrounding armor.

  • Patent number: 4608927
Abstract: A sabot consists of a plurality of segments which define an air pocket for detaching the segments from a fin-stabilized subcaliber penetrator projectile. The air pocket is defined by a rear support region of the sabot. A front support region of the sabot includes a plurality of webs between each adjacent pair of which an air-through-streaming passage is defined. At least the web portion of each segment is made of synthetic material and such web portion has a curved part defining a fracture zone.

  • Patent number: 4444115
Abstract: A cartridge-type munition comprising a casing and a projectile in which the casing at least in part is constituted of combustible and destructible material. According to the invention, a first connection between the projectile and the casing is formed by a neck engaging the periphery of the projectile which is also formed with a boss or projection at its rear end engaged by radial elements forming a second connection with the casing axially spaced from the first connection.
