  • Patent number: 6262166
Abstract: A polyphenylene ether resin composition which comprises: (A) from 30 to 95% by weight of a modified polyphenylene ether resin entirely or partially modified with an unsaturated carboxylic acid or a functional derivative thereof; (B) from 2 to 60% by weight of at least one of a polystyrene and a rubber-modified polystyrene; and (C) from 3 to 40% by weight of a styrene/acrylonitrile copolymer having an acrylonitrile ingredient content of from not less than 7% by weight to less than 11% by weight. The resin composition optionally contains (D) from 1 to 30 parts by weight of a phosphoric acid ester compound; and (E) from 1 to 100 parts by weight of an inorganic filler, each per 100 parts by weight of the total amount of said components (A), (B) and (C). Also disclosed is a molded article prepared from the resin composition.

  • Patent number: 4966814
Abstract: A electroless plating-susceptive fire retardant polyphenylene ether resin comprising a polyphenylene ether resin; a rubber-modified resin comprising a grafted rubber phase comprising an elastomeric rubber having grafted thereto, in a specific grafting degree, a graft component composed of acrylonitrile units and vinyl aromatic compound units and a resin phase of a polymer or polymer mixture comprising acrylonitrile units and vinyl aromatic compound units; and optionally, a polystyrene resin in specific proportions; and also comprising red phosphorus and a phosphoric acid ester in specific amounts. The graft component and the resin phase have specific contents of acrylonitrile units and the amount of all the acrylonitrile units in rubber-modified resin and the amount of the elastomeric rubber are within specific ranges. The composition has not only excellent susceptibility to electroless plating but also excellent fire retardance, impact resistance and heat resistance.

  • Patent number: 4299757
Abstract: A graft copolymer having a styrene polymer grafted onto a trunk polymer consituted of (a) hydrogenated block copolymer of a styrene compound and a diene compound and (b) an olefinic polymer or copolymer is blended with a polyphenylene ether type resin to give a resin composition reduced in anisotropy and having good oil resistance and mechanical properties.

  • Patent number: 4158028
Abstract: A thermoplastic resin composition containing (I) a graft copolymer of a polyphenylene ether with a styrene type compound, containing substantially no homopolymer of polyphenylene ether, and (II) a graft copolymer of an ethylene copolymer of ethylene and not more than 40 mol percent of at least one unsaturated compound of the formula CH.sub.2 =CH--OCOR.sub.1 or CH.sub.2 =CR.sub.2 --COOR.sub.3 (wherein R.sub.1 denotes an alkyl group having one to four carbon atoms and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 each denote a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having one to four carbon atoms) with a styrene type compound has improved properties such as Izod impact strength, oil resistance and weathering resistance.
