Publication number: 20140325459Abstract: A control system is provided based on the use of gestures and functioning especially in mobile terminals. The gesture control system is provided with a general purpose interface with its commands for applications to be controlled. The processing software of the gesture signals includes a training program trained free-form gestures made by the user being stored in the gesture library, and a recognizing program, which matches a gesture made by the user to the stored gestures and chooses the most similar gesture thereof. Gestures can hence be used as commands for controlling any application configured or programmed to receive the command. One and the same application functions in different models of mobile terminals without matching, and in a certain mobile terminal all applications can be run, which applications use specified interface commands. The application can be e.g. a game or activity being included in basic implementation of a mobile terminal.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 7, 2014Publication date: October 30, 2014Inventors: Juha Kela, Panu Korpipaa, Jani Mantyjarvi, Heikki Keranen, Tapani Rantakokko, Esko-Juhani Malm, Sanna Kallio, Jussi Holopainen, Jari Kangas, Samuli Silanto

Patent number: 8819596Abstract: A control system basing on the use of gestures and functioning especially in mobile terminals. The gesture control system is provided with a general purpose interface (320) with its commands for applications (310) to be controlled. The processing software (330) of the gesture signals includes a training program (331), trained free-form gestures made by the user being stored in the gesture library, and a recognizing program (332), which matches a gesture made by the user to the stored gestures and chooses the most similar gesture thereof. Gestures can hence be used as commands for controlling any application configured or programmed to receive the command. Patent number: 8645283Abstract: A method includes receiving first media data from a plurality of persons; identifying first media data generated within a window of time at a certain location and associating the identified first media data with an occurrence of a first event; determining which persons of the plurality of persons were present at the occurrence of the first event; and storing information related to the first event in association with information identifying those persons determined to be present at the occurrence of the first event.Type: GrantFiled: November 24, 2008Date of Patent: February 4, 2014Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Juha Arrasvuori, Jussi Holopainen, Hannu J. Korhonen, Markus Montola, Timo Nummenmaa

Publication number: 20120280898Abstract: A method is provided for controlling information detail in a multi-device environment. In particular, example methods may provide for operating a device in a multi-device environment, directing the presentation, on a display of the device, of a first image, detecting a motion of the device, directing a change of the image presented on the display of the device from the first image to a second image in response to detecting the motion of the device. The first image presented on the device is related to images displayed on other devices in the multi-device environment. The second image may be a scaled version of the first image and the second image may be scaled based on at least one property of the motion. Each device in the multi-device environment may be directed to display a portion of a complete image, where the first image is a portion of the complete image.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 3, 2011Publication date: November 8, 2012Applicant: Nokia CorporationInventors: Andrés Lucero, Tero Jokela, Jussi Holopainen, Juha Arrasvuori

Publication number: 20120054355Abstract: A method for providing access management for a virtual workspace may include receiving location information defining a distance between a first device and at least one other device forming a virtual workspace in association with the first device, determining an access status of the virtual workspace based on the location information, and causing enabling or disabling of access to the virtual workspace based on the access status determined. A corresponding apparatus is also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2010Publication date: March 1, 2012Inventors: Juha Arrasvuori, Andrés Lucero, Jaakko Keränen, Hannu Korhonen, Tero Jokela, Marion Boberg, Jussi Holopainen

Publication number: 20110143728Abstract: An approach is provided for acquiring media corresponding to a target expression. The expression platform receives a request specifying one or more target expressions. Next, the expression platform causes, at least in part, acquisition of media including an expression of one or more emotions. Next, the expression platform performs recognition analysis on the media to extract expression data. Next, the expression platform matches the extracted expression data against reference data corresponding to the one or more target expressions. Then, the expression platform computes a similarity score between the extracted expression data and the matched target expression.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 16, 2009Publication date: June 16, 2011Applicant: Nokia CorporationInventors: Jussi HOLOPAINEN, Jayoun Lee, Elina Ollila, Juha Arrasvuori, Marion Boberg

Patent number: 7805680Abstract: An apparatus for using metadata to more precisely process displayed content may include a processor executing stored instructions, which causes the apparatus to at least receive an image data frame including pixels having a visual object(s), wherein bits in the image data frame includes pixel data for a single pixel. The pixel data includes content and metadata fields. The metadata field includes a value. The metadata value indicates that the single pixel is part of a visual object in a category. The execution of the stored instructions may also cause the apparatus to identify pixels including a visual object by their metadata fields. The pixels include a visual object identifiable within the image data frame such that certain operations are performed on the pixels forming an individual visual object separate from pixels forming remaining visual objects in the visual field. Corresponding methods and computer program products are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2001Date of Patent: September 28, 2010Assignee: Nokia CorporationInventors: Stephan Meyers, Jussi Holopainen, Terje Lundin, Jonka Mattila, Eero Räsänen

Publication number: 20020087403Abstract: Data supplied to a display having a plurality of pixels comprises both content to be displayed and metadata that identifies the content of the respective pixel as being of a particular type by setting the metadata for each pixel to a value that is one of a predefined set of values. The identification of the content as being of a particular type enables the classification of the pixels on a per pixel basis into one or more categories. Pixels containing data for an advertisement can be identified and metered to determine the total display space they occupy and length of time they are displayed, which are both considered measures of the effectiveness of the advertisement. This metering can therefore be used to more equitably charge for advertising on web pages because an advertiser can be charged on the basis of what a user actually sees on the display. If only a percentage of the advertisement is visible, the advertiser pays an amount in proportion to the percentage of the advertisement that is visible.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 3, 2001Publication date: July 4, 2002Applicant: Nokia CorporationInventors: Stephan Meyers, Jussi Holopainen, Terje Lundin, Jouka Mattila, Eero Rasanen
