  • Publication number: 20240251233
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to methods and apparatus for device capability indication. A terminal device obtains a medium access control (MAC) protocol data unit (PDU) comprising a MAC subheader. The MAC subheader comprises a reduced capability (RedCap) bit for indicating that the terminal device supports enhanced RedCap. The terminal device transmits the MAC PDU to a network device. In this way, an indication of the enhanced RedCap can be provided efficiently, for example, without consuming more values of the short logical channel ID (LCID) field in the MAC subheader.

  • Publication number: 20240251435
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to methods, devices, apparatuses, and computer readable medium for small data transmission (SDT). A first device, in response to first data to be transmitted via a SDT corresponding to a first set of resources for a random access procedure and a second set of resources for a configured grant procedure, determine a target resource for at least a part of the first data based on a logical channel restriction on the SDT; and transmit, to a second device, at least the part of the first data on the target resource. In this way, the SDT procedure can be performed with logical channel restrictions, which allows a better isolation of services through specific resource selection. The communication efficiency and network performance can also be improved.

  • Publication number: 20240244706
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to methods, devices, apparatuses, and computer readable medium for small data transmission (SDT). The method comprises in accordance with a determination that a first condition related to Small Data Transmission (SDT) is met, determining a target identifier associated with an inactive state of the first device; and transmitting, to the second device, a first message for the SDT comprising the target identifier. By using an I-RNTI determined based on the SDT type, which may be the short I-RNTI or a new I-RNTI even shorter than the short I-RNTI, bits can be saved and used for UL data that can be transmitted while respecting a maximum SDT data threshold configured by the network device.

  • Publication number: 20240188169
Abstract: Mechanism on configured grant transmissions is provided. If a small data transmission is needed, a first device determines whether a timing advance is valid in a subsequent CG occasion for the small data transmission. The first device also determines whether an evaluation of a validity condition is applicable in the subsequent CG occasion for the small data transmission. If the timing advance is valid and the evaluation is applicable, the first device performs the small data transmission in the subsequent CG occasion. In this way, the first device is able to perform the evaluation of the validity condition in advance, thereby reducing delays and avoiding failures.

  • Publication number: 20240188040
Abstract: This disclosure presents apparatuses and methods to determine, assign, and communicate paging subgroups using assistance information. In some aspects, assistance information can include user equipment (UE) parameters, for example, UE capability parameters, UE type parameters, ID preference parameters, location parameters, or mobility parameters. In some aspects, assistance information can include network parameters, cell parameters, or information about a subset or all UEs registered on the network. The radio access network (RAN) or core network (CN) can utilize the assistance information to determine the number of paging subgroups and to assign one or more subsets of UEs to each paging subgroup. The RAN or CN can communicate the paging subgroups to one or more of the UEs within the network. In some aspects, the paging subgroup can be directly indicated to the UE. In some aspects, the paging subgroup can be derived by the UE using the received paging subgroup information.

  • Publication number: 20240179753
Abstract: Example embodiments of the present disclosure relate to initiation of small data transmission (SDT). A first device determines whether SDT is allowed to be initiated at a first protocol layer of the first device. In accordance with a determination that the SDT is allowed to be initiated at the first protocol layer, the first device determines whether the SDT is allowed to be initiated at a second protocol layer of the first device. In accordance with a determination that the SDT is allowed to be initiated at the second protocol layer, the first device initiates, via the first protocol layer, a communication procedure for the SDT with a second device.
