  • Patent number: 9381594
Abstract: A method for laser cladding a material onto a surface of a machine component using a laser scanning head with laser scanning optics is disclosed. The method includes forming a molten bead of cladding material by directing a beam with the laser scanning optics over a bead scan on the machine component. The method also includes directing the beam with the laser scanning optics over a secondary scan on the machine component, the secondary scan being offset from the bead scan at a predetermined distance on the machine component.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 4, 2013
Date of Patent: July 5, 2016
    Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.
Inventors: Kegan Luick, Thierry Andre Marchione, Justin Curtis Embrey, Daniel Cavanaugh, Waylon Scott Walker
  • Patent number: 9303321
Abstract: The present disclosure is related to a cladding composition. The cladding composition may include cladding powder particles and flux particles. The flux particles may have an average particle size of less than about 40 ?m, and more than about 50% of the flux particles may adhere to the surfaces of the cladding powder particles.

  • Patent number: 8950048
Abstract: A remanufactured planet carrier is disclosed having a first plate and a second plate spaced apart from and oriented generally parallel to the first plate. Supports join and support the first and second plates. The remanufactured planet carrier further has a plurality of first pin bores in the first plate and a plurality of second pin bores in the second plate. The first pin bores are parallel and generally aligned with the second pin bores. A cylindrical member extends from a central axis of the second plate away from the first plate with a shaft bore formed within the cylindrical member. The first and second pin bores and the shaft bore each have a surface layer with a hardness of at least about 180 BHN and a strength of at least about 500 MPa.

  • Publication number: 20140140836
Abstract: A slurry pump component is disclosed. The slurry pump component may have a base member fabricated from white iron, and a cladding surface made of a wear resistant material disposed in a tool steel matrix on the base member. The wear resistant material may have a melting point of greater than about 3000° C.
