  • Patent number: 11780372
Abstract: A vehicular driver monitoring system includes an interior rearview mirror assembly having a driver monitoring camera and first and second near-infrared light emitting elements accommodated by a mirror head. The light emitting elements are oriented at the mirror head so that (i) a beam of light emitted by the first light emitting element would be directed toward a driver's region of a left hand drive vehicle if the mirror assembly were installed in the LHD vehicle, and (ii) a beam of light emitted by the second light emitting element would be directed toward a driver's region of a right hand drive vehicle if the mirror assembly were installed in the RHD vehicle. The system enables and/or operates the first or second light emitting element for a driver monitoring function responsive to indication that the mirror assembly is installed or will be installed in a LHD vehicle or a RHD vehicle.

  • Patent number: 11746575
Abstract: A vehicular exterior door handle assembly includes a base portion and a handle portion. A bellcrank link pivotally connects the swing end of the handle portion to a bellcrank. An actuator engages a portion of a crank to impart pivotal movement of the crank to cause the crank to pivot relative to the base portion and move the handle portion from a recessed position toward a deployed position. When the handle portion is at the recessed position, the base end of the handle portion is manually movable inward to cause the swing end of the handle portion to move outward from the base portion to move the handle portion towards a manually deployed position without operation of the motor. A crank locking mechanism that limits pivotal movement of the crank when the handle portion is in the manually deployed position.

  • Publication number: 20230242033
Abstract: A vehicular exterior rearview mirror assembly includes a mirror reflective element and an illumination module that includes a freeformed lens optic and a circuit board with an illumination source disposed thereat. With the vehicular exterior rearview mirror assembly mounted at a side of a vehicle, light emitted by the illumination source passes through the freeformed lens optic and provides ground lighting that illuminates a ground region located at the side of the vehicle. The ground lighting includes (a) ground illumination of the illuminated ground region and (b) within the ground illumination of the illuminated ground region, a logo formed by the freeformed lens optic. The logo formed by the freeformed lens optic has a light intensity greater than any light intensity of the ground illumination of the illuminated ground region. The illumination module is snap-attached at a portion of the vehicular exterior rearview mirror assembly.

  • Publication number: 20230158955
Abstract: A vehicular interior rearview mirror assembly includes a mirror head adjustably attached at a mounting base. The mirror head includes a prismatic mirror reflective element having a wedge-shaped, reflector-coated glass substrate having a front side and a rear side separated by a thickness of the glass substrate, with the thickness of the glass substrate varying between a lower edge region of the glass substrate and an upper edge region of the glass substrate. A driver monitoring camera is accommodated by the mirror head and views through the prismatic mirror reflective element. A refraction-compensating element is disposed between a lens of the driver monitoring camera and the rear side of the glass substrate of the prismatic mirror reflective element. The refraction-compensating element is a wedge-shaped element that offsets refraction of light that passes through the wedge-shaped, reflector coated glass substrate of the prismatic mirror reflective element.

  • Publication number: 20230114112
Abstract: A vehicular access system includes a door handle assembly having (i) a base mounted at a door of a vehicle, (ii) a handle movable relative to the base and (iii) an electrically operable actuator that is electrically operated to move the handle relative to the base. The handle is movable between a recessed position and a partially extended position. The vehicular access system controls operation of the electrically operable actuator to move the handle between the recessed position and the partially extended position. The vehicular access system detects an authorized user and determines movement of the detected authorized user. Responsive to determination that the authorized user is approaching the door of the vehicle, the vehicular access system unlocks the door handle assembly and controls operation of the electrically operable actuator to move the handle to the partially extended position.

  • Patent number: 11512506
Abstract: A method for extending and retracting a handle of a door handle assembly for a door of a vehicle includes providing a door handle assembly having a base portion, a handle portion that is movably attached at the base portion, and an electrically operable actuator that operates to move the handle portion relative to the base portion. A control controls operation of the actuator to move the handle portion between a recessed position and a partially extended position. Responsive to detecting presence of an authorized user, a sensing system determines a motion vector of the user that is indicative of a direction that the user is moving relative to the vehicle. Responsive to determining that the determined motion vector is indicative of the user approaching the door of the vehicle, the control controls operation of the actuator to move the handle portion to the partially extended position.

  • Publication number: 20220341226
Abstract: A vehicular exterior door handle assembly includes a base portion disposed at a handle region of a vehicle door, a handle, and an actuator. The actuator includes an electrically-operable motor, an output element mechanically coupled to the handle, and a variable drive element coupled to the output element. When the motor is operated, the actuator causes the drive element to move the output element and move the handle from a recessed position to a deployed position. When moving the handle from the recessed position, the drive element moves the output element at a first speed to move the handle. When the motor is operated to further move the handle, the drive element moves the output element at a second speed to more rapidly move the handle from a partially deployed position toward a deployed position.

A handle portion is movable relative to the base portion between a recessed position and a deployed position. An actuator includes a motor that is electrically operable to move the handle portion between the recessed position and the deployed position. The actuator includes a position indicating element that indicates at least one position of an output shaft of the motor. Responsive to an input signal, the actuator moves the handle portion between the recessed position and the deployed position. While the actuator moves the handle portion, the position indicating element indicates that the output shaft arrives at one of the at least one positions and the actuator depowers the motor.
