  • Patent number: 7624281
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a system and method for providing a user access to a Keyboard, Video, Mouse (KVM) drawer based upon biometric authentication of the user, and more particularly, to a system and method for providing a user access to at least one host computer associated with a KVM drawer based, at least in part, on the user's unique biometric data. In one embodiment, an emulation controller, which emulates a KVM switch, is enabled or disabled based upon whether the associated user is properly authenticated. In another embodiment, an input-output buffer is enabled or disabled based upon whether the associated user is properly authenticated. Methods are also provided wherein the storage device containing at least a portion of the biometric data associated with authorized users is enabled upon receiving biometric data associated with a user of the KVM drawer.

  • Publication number: 20060123182
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for switching keyboard and mouse devices and video displays, as well as USB peripheral devices, between USB hosts and video sources over extended distances. Provided is a distributed KVM and peripheral switch where a USB keyboard and mouse is emulated to the host interfaces of the KVM and peripheral switch and a USB host is emulated to keyboard and mouse interfaces of the KVM and peripheral switch. In addition, the keyboard, mouse, display and peripheral devices are separated from the hosts and video sources by a non-USB communications channel.
