In one aspect, a method includes presenting, for selection by a user, one or more settings and one or more characters. The method further includes receiving a selection by the user of a setting and a character for three or more acts of a story, wherein one of the three or more acts is a beginning act and another one of the three or more acts is an ending act. The method further includes receiving a data identifying a particular action. The method further includes receiving data indicating a transition between two of the three or more acts, wherein the transition is triggered by the particular action. The method further includes determining whether there exists a path from the beginning act to the ending act based on the data indicating the transition.

In one aspect, a method includes receiving a request to view a book; displaying the book on a display device. The method further includes displaying an activity indicator at a location in the book. The method further includes receiving a selection of the activity indicator. The method further includes displaying an activity on the display device, the activity being associated with the book and the location of the activity indicator within the book. The method further includes receiving a response to the displayed activity from the user; determining that the response to the activity meets specified criteria. The method further includes awarding a playing card that is associated with the book, the playing card configured to be used in a card game played by the user.
