  • Patent number: 7549550
Abstract: A collapsible container includes a plurality of collapsible walls, each pair of adjacent walls connected by a latch. Each latch can be selectively actuated from contact with the latch both from inside and the outside of the container, and further by inwardly directed forced to the outside of the wall first to collapse. Preferably, the latch includes a recess into which the adjacent wall is disposed when the latch is in the latched position. Preferably, the latch is unlatched by flexing the latch away from the adjacent wall by application of force on an inner release surface, inward of the recess or by actuation of an outer release surface, outward of the recess, or by the application of an inwardly directed forced to the walls that are first to collapse.

  • Publication number: 20090057320
Abstract: A crate, such as for transporting egg cartons or other items, includes a base, opposed side walls and a rear wall extending upward from the base. A front wall opposite the rear wall is selectably moveable between a closed position and a retracted, open position. In the retracted position, access to the interior of the crate is provided. In one embodiment, the front wall includes a plurality of pivotably connected sections, such that the front wall can be retracted to provide access to the interior. A latch selectively prevents movement of the front wall to the retracted position.

  • Patent number: 7252041
Abstract: Polyolefin-based pallets capable of passing standard pallet flammability tests are prepared by molding the pallet or one or more subassemblies thereof, of a polyolefin molding resin containing a flame retardant package containing magnesium hydroxide, and optionally alumina trihydrate, and zinc borate. The flame retardants may be supplied as a master batch at a concentration higher than that desired in the pallet or subassembly, in a polyolefin-compatible polymer, and result in pallets having a significantly lower heat release rate.

  • Patent number: 7195127
Abstract: The collapsible container includes a plurality of side walls connected via hinges to a base. The side walls are moveable about the hinges between a collapsed position on the base and an upright, use position generally perpendicular to the base. Each of the hinges includes a hinge pin rotatably received within a hinge receiver. Each hinge pin includes at least one radial projection that abuts a portion of the hinge receiver when the side wall is in the upright position. The radial projection resists over rotation of the side wall and prevents the hinge pin from leaving the hinge receiver during the application of an over rotation force.

  • Patent number: 7100786
Abstract: A collapsible crate includes an improved hinge for connecting side walls to the base. The improved hinge includes a hinge member and a hinge receiver. The hinge receiver includes a pair of deformable tangs each having an opening. The hinge receiver includes a hinge pin having a pair of axial ends, each extending into the opening of the tang. Each axial end of the pin includes a tapered portion, which facilitates insertion of the hinge pin into the hinge receiver.

  • Patent number: 7086339
Abstract: A pallet assembly includes an upper deck and a lower deck spaced by a plurality of columns. The weight of the pallet is reduced without significant reduction in strength by providing only a single cross beam in each of the upper and lower reinforcement members and orienting them perpendicular to one another. The reinforcement members are minimized for weight reduction and for improved performance in heat tests. The peripheral rail of the upper reinforcement member is reduced such that it rests on only an inwardly open recess on an inner corner of each of the corner columns. This reduces the size and weight of the upper reinforcement member, while still providing support to the upper deck. Additionally, the peripheral rails of both the upper and lower decks are reduced in length such that either ledge does not directly support them while the pallet is stored on a rack.

  • Patent number: 7063210
Abstract: A crate is provided for holding and transporting products such as plastic milk containers. In accordance with one aspect, a tighter lateral tolerance or fit is provided to stabilize and strengthen telescopic stacking of crates by contouring an inner surface of the side walls to provide a smaller dimension in the opening of the crate, such as by selectively removing or reducing any outward taper or draft of the side walls. In accordance with another aspect, loading forces are directly transferred to a bottom drag rail by forming the side walls to position at least a portion of the side wall inner surface over the drag rail.

  • Patent number: 7048135
Abstract: A folding crate or container is provided having a translating hinge arrangement that allows a side wall of the crate to freely translate in a vertical direction when rotated into a folded position. By allowing opposing side walls to move vertically relative to a bottom component of the crate when folded, subsequent overlapping side walls will lay substantially flat and parallel to the bottom component when folded thereon. This in turn allows the overall height of the crate to be reduced when in the folded position without requiring a specific side wall folding sequence.

  • Patent number: 6840181
Abstract: A pallet is provided which includes spaced upper and lower decks. A plurality of receiving areas are formed in one of the upper and lower decks, where each receiving area includes at least one latch member extending therefrom. A plurality of corresponding supports extend from the other of the upper and lower decks, where each support includes at least one latch receiver extending therefrom, each latch receiver having a plurality of spring arms. The latch receiver is adapted to receive the latch member such that engagement of the receiving areas and corresponding supports securely joins the upper and lower decks in an assembled configuration.
