    Abstract: A protective garment is provided and includes a jacket having various releasably mounted protective components. The jacket includes a protective collar of ballistic resistant fabric for protecting the neck of a wearer and has front and rear portions which are releasably connected together at opposed side portions of the collar so that the front and rear portions can fold down when not in use. A protective plate is releasably fastened to the front of the jacket and the fastening mechanism allows the plate to be held in a number of different vertical positions. The jacket also includes a rear pocket for housing a rear protective plate. The sleeves of the jacket include a sleeve extension which is slideably mounted to the main sleeve to vary its effective length.

    Abstract: A face protector comprises a protective structure shaped for extending about a person's mandibular region and a mounting for mounting the face protector to a military combat helmet. The protective structure comprises a front portion and opposed left and right side portions extending from the front portion, the front portion having a free upper edge for positioning below eye level and above mouth level when mounted to the helmet, and being size to extend to below a person's chin. The front portion has inner and outer surfaces, and the mounting is positioned to space the inner surface and the upper edge away from the person's mouth and nose when mounted to the helmet to provide a gap for the passage of ambient air therebetween to permit unobstructed breathing. The protective structure comprises a ballistic resistant material for providing protection against high velocity fragments from explosive devices.

The protective skirt comprises one or more layers of high tensile strength flexible material, such as an aramid material and a securing mechanism for enabling the skirt to be suspended from the helmet in the required position. The protective skirt may extend to a position below a person's head to cover and protect a person's neck region.

Each armour element comprises a flexible or rigid ballistic resistant material or structure for protecting the limbs of a wearer against bullets and fragmentation from explosives. The protective garment includes a lower sleeve and lower leggings, each of which are detachable from the basic garment.
