  • Patent number: 8789981
Abstract: Disclosed is an expandable envelope that comprises a light directing film this both transmits and reflects light. In its inflated form and along with a light source, the envelope forms a light balloon that due to the light directing film provides directed light to an area surrounding the balloon.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 1, 2010
Date of Patent: July 29, 2014
    Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties Company

  • Patent number: 8553228
Abstract: Systems and methods for calibrating a web inspection system using data from a calibrated point sensor, using a frequency spectra-based analysis. A sensor measures a web property of interest, which is then converted into the frequency domain, as is information from a web inspection system. A correlation model is then created to allow calibration of the web inspection system.

  • Patent number: 7857251
Abstract: Film lamination vehicles and methods that can be used to laminate films to surfaces are disclosed. The vehicles and methods use a moving lamination device that forms a lamination front over which the film is applied to the surface. The lamination front complies to irregularities in the surface such as dips, bumps, etc. while providing substantially uniform pressure such that the film conforms to the surface.

  • Publication number: 20090243133
Abstract: A film handling apparatus including an orienter for deforming a polymeric film, a cross-web heat distribution system configured to provide a selectable distribution of heat to the film in the orienter, a measurement device configured to measure at least a portion of a cross-web caliper of the film, and an automated controller that controls the cross-web heat distribution system to adjust heat distribution in response to the measured cross-web caliper of the film. The film handling apparatus can provide for at least partial automatic control of the caliper of a film while the film is being manufactured.

  • Patent number: 7322229
Abstract: The invention provides a surface profile measurement device for use on rigid or semi-rigid substrates, such as floors. The device includes (a) a beam; (b) at least one beam support mounted on the beam; (c) a sensor assembly slidably connected to said beam and adapted for measuring the distance to the surface; and (d) a transducer assembly adapted for measuring the position of said sensor assembly along said beam.
