Abstract: A packet transmission method is provided. The packet transmission method may be applied to an apparatus. The packet transmission method may include the following steps. A path engine circuit of the apparatus may receive a packet from a modem circuit of the apparatus or from a Wi-Fi chip of the apparatus. Then, the path engine circuit may transmit the packet from the modem circuit to the Wi-Fi chip, or transmit the packet from the Wi-Fi chip to the modem circuit or a central processing unit (CPU) of the apparatus.

Upon receiving a network packet, a first address in an IPv4 header of the packet is converted to a mapping index. A least significant segment of an address field of an IPv6 header of the packet is generated based on the mapping index, and the IPv6 header is utilized to encapsulate the packet. The IPv4 header is recoverable via the least significant segment of the IPv6 header, so that the IPv4 header may be optionally omitted in transmission of the packet.

Abstract: A cable modem executes periodic ranging with a cable modem terminal system and records a time point at which the periodic ranging is completed. The cable modem obtains an un-ranging time interval during which the cable modem terminal system permits the cable modem not to execute periodic ranging with the cable modem terminal system, and sets a sleep time interval during which the cable modem does not execute periodic ranging with the cable modem terminal system according to the un-ranging time interval. Then, the cable modem shuts off a power amplifier in the cable modem in the sleep time interval if the cable modem does not transmit packets during the preset time interval before the recorded time point.
