  • Patent number: 6552877
Abstract: If a large external impact is applied to a magnetic disc apparatus, a slider jumps from a disc surface and rotates. When the slider jumps and rotates, its edges re-contact the disc surface to damage this surface. To reduce the rotation angle of the slider to control its position if an impact is effected, the present invention provides a roof on a load arm to reduce the contact angle at which the slider contacts the disc surface in order to relax the impact upon a contact.

  • Patent number: 5377064
Abstract: A structure for supporting a magnetic head slider for a linear magnetic disk unit comprises: a magnetic head slider having air bearing rails located opposite to a magnetic disk so as to extend in a direction of a track of the magnetic disk; a gimbal for elastically supporting the magnetic head slider, the gimbal being bonded to a back surface of the magnetic head slider on a side reverse to the air bearing rail; and a support arm having the gimbal secured to its distal end, whose axis extends in a direction perpendicular to the air bearing rail, which support arm gives the magnetic head slider a pressing force toward the magnetic disk.

  • Patent number: 5325245
Abstract: In a magnetic disk apparatus, a head positioning signal is written on a magnetic disk, the written positioning signal is read out, the read positioning signal is demodulated to produce a position signal, and a data write/read head is positioned to a predetermined track in responses to the produced position signal. A head positioning signal is written into write tracks adjacent to each other along a radial direction of the magnetic head, the positioning signal is read out by tracing a read track bridging the write tracks, and a positioning error of the head positioning signal is generated from a shift of the read positioning signal with respect to the read track. Furthermore, the position signal is over-written by actuating the write head in the radial direction according to the positioning error.

  • Patent number: 5241435
Abstract: A method of recording a servo signal on each track of a magnetic disk includes a first signal for demagnetizing the magnetic disk and a second signal for forming the servo signal. The recording width (core width) of the magnetic head is made greater than the width of the track. Parts for recording signals and not recording signals are set in each track. The first and second signals are selected and recorded in the signal recording part, thereby to form the servo signal. Current to be conducted to the magnetic head is cut in the part for not recording signals, and the track is skipped to the next part for recording signals. When the recording of the track has ended, the magnetic head is moved to the next track, and the above steps are repeated.

  • Patent number: 4984115
Abstract: An axial force exerting in the axial direction of a rotary actuator is uniformly applied to a plurality of axially arranged ball bearings of a bearing set to hold inner and outer rings of each ball bearing in optimum position, thereby heightening the rigidity of the bearing set. A waved washer is interposed between the ball bearings and distributes the axial force so as to axially slide the ball bearings. While being slidden to the optimum positions, the ball bearings are bonded for fixing.
