  • Patent number: 7242362
Abstract: An antenna arrangement, and a method associated with such arrangement, including at least two antennas for providing radio coverage to a plurality of user equipment in a predetermined area of a mobile communications network. The at least two different antennas are arranged to have different vertical properties to thereby provide different radio coverage in the predetermined area. There is provided a plurality of frequencies for use in the predetermined area. The arrangement includes adjusting means for dynamically adjusting the transmission properties of at least one of the antennas based on the distribution of users within the cell and the frequency requirements for users within the cell. The arrangement further includes allocating means for dynamically allocating each user equipment to at least one group based on link characteristics of the user equipment.

  • Patent number: 7142830
Abstract: A method for forming signals at a transceiver having at least two transmit and receive chains, the method comprising the steps of: (a) determining the phase difference and relative amplitude of signals from a set comprising a plurality of mobile stations as received through the receive chains, (b) receiving from each of at least one of the mobile stations messages indicative of the strength or quality of signals as received by the respective mobile station from the transceiver and on the basis of those messages determining a phase offset and amplitude distortion, internal to the transceiver, resulting from the differences in the instrumental properties of the receiver and transmitter chains in the transceiver; and (c) transmitting signals from each of the transmitter chains by applying to each transmitter chain amplitude weights and signal delays, selected on the basis of the determined phase offset and amplitude distortion, and received relative amplitudes and phase differences.

  • Patent number: 7136627
Abstract: A method for selecting a diversity mode to be applied by a transmitter having two cross-polarized antenna arrays, each representing a diversity branch, comprising the steps of: providing a plurality of diversity mode performance chart look-up tables, mapping a respective individual diversity mode to a respective pair of time correlation value and space correlation value for the two cross-polarized antenna array beams, wherein a respective individual diversity mode is presented by a mapping area, wherein the plurality of performance chart look-up tables is parameterized by an indication of a ratio of received powers from the diversity branches, first selecting one of the performance chart look-up tables dependent on determined ratio of received powers from separate beams, and second selecting one of the individual diversity modes according to the mapping to the determined actual time relation and space correlation values from the first selected performance chart look-up table.
