  • Patent number: 6562196
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for optimizing the degree of flocculation in a headbox. The degree of flocculation is measured continuously from a stock flow (M1)/stock flows by means of a detector (R1) of flocculation, and the detector (R1) transmits a signal to a regulator (H1), which regulates the metering of retention agent (10) and/or fillers (11) and/or auxiliary chemicals (12) into the stock flow (M1)/stock flows continuously on the basis of the signal to an optimal level, which stock flow/flows is/are passed into the headbox (P1).

  • Patent number: 6544387
Abstract: A multi-layer headbox for a paper or board machine including stock inlet headers each providing one stock and coupled to a tube bank which in turn is coupled to a respective intermediate chamber. The stock flows from the intermediate chambers into a turbulence generator and through pipes in the turbulence generator into a slice cone to be discharged therefrom onto a forming wire. The multi-layer headbox includes distribution valves for regulating the flow of dilution water across the width of the headbox. Each distribution valve communicates with a distribution plate placed in connection with the tube bank. From each valve, the dilution liquid is distributed at the same time to all the stocks that form the different layers of the web in the multi-layer headbox at a specific position of width of the multi-layer headbox.

  • Patent number: 5825653
Abstract: A method for continuous overall regulation of a former of a paper or board machine or equivalent in which a physical fluid flow model of the drainage and the flow state of the pulp suspension flow is formed. The model is solved by making use of the data on the geometry of the former and initial and boundary conditions necessary for a solution to the model. The difference between the simulated state, which has been obtained as the solution of the physical flow model, and the state adopted as the target is determined as the cost function, wherein the target state is determined by means of the quality requirements of the paper and possibly by means of the costs of operation and the runnability of the paper machine. The cost function is optimized and, thus, optimal regulation values and set values are obtained for the regulation devices and/or actuators of the former in view of the given cost function.

  • Patent number: 5746889
Abstract: A stock feed system for a multi-layer headbox in which a stock concept is passed into each inlet header in the multi-layer headbox. The stock concepts are produced out of the same fresh stock by adding chemicals and fillers to divided portions of that fresh stock. To this end, the system includes a single fresh-stock container, and stock lines into which the fillers, additives and equivalent are added in compliance with the requirements of each concept. The stock feed system also includes at least one fiber distributor for transferring long fibers out of the stock that is destined to form the surface layer of the paper into the stock that is destined to form a layer placed in the interior of the paper, preferably the middle layer.

  • Patent number: 5688372
Abstract: A method and device in the regulation of a headbox. The headbox includes a pulp inlet header, after the pulp inlet header, seen in the pulp flow direction, a distributor manifold whose pipes are opened into an intermediate chamber. The headbox comprises an attenuation chamber placed in connection with the intermediate chamber and, after the intermediate chamber, a turbulence generator having tubes which are opened, at their outlet end, into a discharge duct and, at their inlet end, into the intermediate chamber. • Patent number: 5674363
Abstract: A method in the regulation of a pulp suspension flow through the headbox of a paper machine/board machine wherein an additional flow is introduced into the pulp suspension at different points across the width of the headbox. The concentration of the additional flow is regulated by a mixer unit which includes a displaceable distributor part such that when the mixing ratio is being regulated, the flow resistances of the component flows, of the additional flow, entering into the mixer unit are adjusted by displacing the distributor part of the mixer unit in a chamber of the mixer unit.
