  • Patent number: 5387863
Abstract: A synthetic array comprising a moving magnetic sensor that provides a signal representative of an array of magnetic sensors is coupled to a digital signal processor is used to break a magnetic dipole field into its components, and a magnetic signature of the present magnetic field is created. Predicted dipole signatures are precomputed for multiple magnetic orientations of the dipole at each of a plurality of range locations, expressed in terms of Anderson functions, which are a set of equations that decompose the magnetic field in each of the magnetic response locations, and are stored in a lookup table for reference. Input data measured by the moving synthetic array are processed and each magnetic value is predicted to process against background noise. A long term time average consistent with the relative motion of the dipole is computed using bandpass filtering of the signals from the synthetic array.

  • Patent number: 5388080
Abstract: An active adaptive noise canceller that inserts delays into the weight update logic of an adaptive filter to keep the filter stable. The noise and residual noise are sensed and the respective sensor signals are digitized at a given sample rate for processing in the adaptive filter. To eliminate the need for high sample rates while maintaining flexibility in the frequency regions over which the adaptive filter is stable, the delay introduced into the weight update logic is a non-integer multiple of the sample period. The non-integer sample delay is obtained by a sample interpolation and decimation procedure.

  • Patent number: 5381425
Abstract: A convolutional encoding/decoding system encodes a data bit stream into n bit parity sets from k bit data bit sets, using code words of length L. The system is dependent upon the finding that unique data to parity tables can be generated where both data and parity bit blocks are w bits in length. The value of w=n(L-k)/(n-k). An encoded parity bit stream is subjected to Exclusive OR operation through a connection mask or masks that are dependent upon the encoding code words. The Exclusive OR operation generates syndrome symbols indicative of the presence of errors in the parity bit stream and which are employed to address a correction table. Parity correction values are derived from the correction table and are used to revise the parity bit stream, which is then decoded, using a parity to data table. A number of parity correction procedures are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5355449
Abstract: Method and apparatus for outline font character generation in dot matrix devices including a point transform engine, a parametric equation generator, an adaptive forward differencing engine, a transition detection engine, a transition processor, an intermediate storage, and a bitmap converter. The point transform engine performs a linear transformation on the input control points to produce a set of control points corresponding to the description of the scaled image. The parametric equation generator computes a set of coefficients used in generating polysegments. The adaptive forward differencing engine generates a set of controlled length vectors representing the image, while the transition detection engine determines the transition pixels by scanning the vectors both horizontally and vertically to determine whether a scanline is crossed by the vector. The transition processor enhances the image quality and alters the number and location of the previously determined transition pixel.

  • Patent number: 5315538
Abstract: A system and method for automating signal tracking, estimation of signal parameters, and extraction of signals from sonar data to detect weaker signals. A maximum a posteriori (MAP) algorithm processing provides a track output of the signal which is used as a guide or template to provide optimal spectral integration on an unstable or frequency varying line. The present invention includes track integration, parameter estimation, signal track normalization, and sequential signal detection. The present invention partitions the input band into frequency subwindows. For each subwindow, the strongest signal is tracked, its parameters are estimated, and then the signal is normalized (removed) from the subwindow. This is repeated until the entire subwindow set is processed. Then the subwindows, now with their strongest signals removed, are recombined to form one input band. This aggregated procedure represents one processing pass.

  • Patent number: 5264793
Abstract: A dipole moment detection and localization process and apparatus in which the processing is applied to a single linear array adapted to sense magnetic dipoles, and wherein data from the sensors are processed as if it were derived from sets of subarrays of sensors. The apparatus comprises a linear sensor array whose output is processed by separate dipole moment detection and location processors, or a single processor that provides for parallel processing operation. Data from the plurality of subarrays of sensors are processed in terms of Anderson functions and are correlated. The individual outputs of each processor, or parallel processing portion, is coupled to a multiplier that is adapted to correlate the signals. The dot product of these two correlated output signals is then formed to yield data that is thresholded and displayed.
