    Abstract: Vinyl phosphonate esters are provided corresponding to the following formula: ##EQU1## wherein R is the same or different and is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.12 straight or branched aliphatic group, preferably a methyl group, or a phenyl group or a halo-substituted R group. A process for their production is also disclosed. These compounds are useful as flame retardants, particularly for polyurethane foams, thermoplastic and thermoset resins and cellulosic fibers.
