  • Patent number: 6795998
Abstract: A swab for cleaning electronic and electro-mechanical components includes a handle and a pull-truded fiber cleaning head. The handle is elongated and has a cleaning head end and a grasping end. The cleaning head end defines a securing region for securing the cleaning head to the handle. The cleaning head is formed from a plurality of fibers that are pulled through a die to compress the fibers into a substantially rigid, elongated cleaning head. The swab includes a tether to secure the swab and prevent inadvertent misplacement.

  • Patent number: 6523908
Abstract: A swab for cleaning electrical and particularly fiber optic connectors includes an elongated handle defining a longitudinal axis and having a cleaning head end and a grasping end. The swab includes a wrapped foam cleaning end. The wrapped foam cleaning end is formed from an elongated strip of microporous foam that is spiral wound about the cleaning end of the handle and is formed having a substantially flat cleaning end. A method for making the swab is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20020088073
Abstract: An electro-static dissipating swab has an elongated handle defining a longitudinal axis and defining a cleaning head end and a grasping end. The cleaning head end defines a securing region. The handle is formed from an electro-static dissipative material. A cleaning tip is formed from an electro-static dissipative material and is secured to the handle cleaning head end. The handle and cleaning tip define a longitudinal axis. The swab, in a dry state, dissipates a static electrical charge from a charge plate having a 20 picofarad capacitance at a charge of 1000 volts to a charge of less than 10 volts in less than about 500 milliseconds, and in a wetted state dissipates a static electrical charge from a charge plate having a 20 picofarad capacitance at a charge of 1000 volts to a charge of less than 10 volts in less than about 100 milliseconds.

  • Patent number: 5807320
Abstract: A receptacle receives and at least partially contains a container that contains fluid. The receptacle, or the receptacle in combination with the container, defines an inflation device. The inflation device is associated with the container so that when the inflation device is inflated the fluid is forced from the container. Subsequent to the proper positioning of the container relative to a human cavity, the inflation device is inflated by operating an activation device such as a switch or a valve. The activation device is preferably distant from the container and receptacle such that the activation device can be easily accessed and operated. Alternatively a spring is associated with the receptacle. The spring is compressed and a retention device operates to maintain the spring in the compressed configuration. Once the container and receptacle are properly positioned relative to a cavity, the retention device is acted upon to release the spring.
