  • Patent number: 10155851
Abstract: According to an embodiment, natural polymers will be used to enhance the biodegradability of nanocomposites, increase potential use of sustainable polymer matrices, improve the interlaminar fracture toughness of graphite/epoxy composites and attain complete nanoparticle dispersion through covalent bonding of nanoparticles and natural polymers. The starch derivatives containing POSS (polyhedral silsesquioxane) were synthesized by reacting natural polymer with different POSS molecules in a solvent in presence of a catalyst. Interlaminar fracture toughness testing results from the epoxy based nanocomposites containing 3, 5, 7, and 10 wt % POSS modified natural polymer in the interlaminar area are presented. The biodegradability of the composites is expected to improve through the incorporation of the natural polymer derivatives.

  • Patent number: 10011706
Abstract: According to an embodiment, a method for grafting POSS (polyhedral silsesquioxane) nanomaterial to graphene oxide is described for use in preparation of high performance composite materials. In another embodiment, amine functionalized graphene oxide may be particularly suitable. In this embodiment, POSS molecules grafted to amine functionalized graphene oxide are synthesized by reacting graphene oxide with different POSS molecules. The amine functionalized graphene oxide may be dissolved in a solvent and the reaction may include the presence of a catalyst. The resultant POSS grafted graphene oxide/POSS grafted amine functionalized graphene oxide may be mixed with a resin (epoxy) in a masterbatch. The masterbatch may then be packaged and sold. The masterbatch material may then be introduced into the interlaminar area of graphite/epoxy composites.

  • Patent number: 9465899
Abstract: A method of provisioning an integrated circuit with decoupling capacitance includes identifying in an initial design of the integrated circuit lacking decoupling elements, a standard cell instance satisfying a transient power or frequency switching criteria. Based on a transient power characteristic of the standard cell instance, a decoupling capacitance requirement for the standard cell instance is determined. The decoupling capacitance requirement indicates a capacitance sufficient to bring the standard cell instance into compliance with a stability constraint on a supply voltage node of the standard cell instance. A decoupling capacitor satisfying the decoupling capacitance requirement is provisioned by appending an appropriate sized decap transistor having one or more gate electrode elements to the standard cell instance.

  • Publication number: 20110321008
Abstract: GUI form code comprising a set of GUI elements can be imported. A user interface description can be generated from the GUI form code that has an element corresponding to each GUI element. For each user interface element converted from a corresponding to one of the GUI elements, a user interface element type can be determined as can temporal associations between the user interface elements. A Conversation User Interface (CUI) code corresponding to the GUI form code can be created from the user interface description. When creating the CUI code for each of the user interface elements, different and rules to convert the user interface element into CUI code can be used depending on a user interface element type of the user interface element being converted. When creating the CUI code, the user interface elements can be temporally ordered based on the pre-determined spatio-temporal associations between the graphical user interface (GUI) elements.

  • Publication number: 20070243393
Abstract: Sandwich composite constructions with superior thermal and acoustic insulation properties are provided. In addition, the sandwich composite constructions are lightweight and have a mechanical integrity that may allow them to withstand an impact force of five pounds per square inch or more. One aspect of the present invention relates to the composition of the sandwich constructions, while another relates to methods of fabricating the sandwich composite constructions. Materials incorporated into the constructions include fibrous material, aerogel, resin, separation material, and insulating material, such as a foam. A vacuum assisted resin transfer method (VARTM) may be used to manufacture the sandwich composites by infusing resin into a composite preform such that the resin is received into at least a portion of the fibrous material pores. Water soluble tooling materials may be used as the substrate for the preform to fabricate sandwich composite panels having either simple or complex geometries.

  • Publication number: 20050260093
Abstract: The present invention relates to the fabrication of low cost, in situ, porous metallic, ceramic and cermet foam structures having improved mechanical properties such as energy absorption and specific stiffness. Methods of fabricating the structures from compositions including ceramic and/or metallic powders are provided. The flowable compositions also include an immiscible phase that results in pores within the final structure. Furthermore, the structures may be shaped to have external porosity, such as with mesh-like structures.

  • Publication number: 20050116136
Abstract: The present invention relates to a low density, water-soluble coring and tooling material used for the fabrication of composite parts. One aspect of the present invention relates to a lightweight, strong composite coring material that can be easily shaped and removed from cured composite parts. Another aspect of the present invention relates to a lightweight, strong composite tooling material that is easily tailored to provide a specific coefficient of thermal expansion and thermal conductivity, thus providing a tooling material that can be matched to the composite structure and material being fabricated.

  • Publication number: 20050039885
Abstract: A heat exchanger device includes an extruded body that includes one or more layers of channels for coolant flow therethrough, the channels generally having inner diameters of between about 50 microns to about 2000 microns. The device is formed of a material having a high thermal conductivity to facilitate transfer of heat from the heating components present in the subject cooling application to the coolant passing through the heat exchanger and to be compatible with materials of the heating components. The device material is selected from the group consisting of ceramic oxides, ceramic carbides, ceramic nitrides, ceramic borides, ceramic suicides, metals, and intermetallics, and combinations thereof. The heat exchanger device is formed from an extruded filament that is arranged to give the desired channel configuration. The filament includes a central, removable material and an outer material that forms the channel walls upon removal of the central material.

  • Patent number: 5159423
Abstract: A heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) is formed with self-aligned base-emitter and base-collector junctions by forming a two-level mask over a doped base layer, sequentially forming openings in registration through the two mask layers, and using the opening in one mask layer to define the collector region and the opening in the other mask layer to define the emitter. A buried conductive layer formed by a dopant implant establishes an electrical contact to the collector region, and connects to the surface via another conductive implant that extends through a lateral extension of the collector region. The collector region itself is formed by a dopant implant, while the active base region which forms junctions with the emitter and collector is thinner than the remainder of the base layer; the latter feature reduces the resistivity associated with connections to lateral base contacts.
