  • Publication number: 20230208262
Abstract: An electric power generator comprises a rotor and a plurality of stators arranged coaxially and concentrically about a central axis. A first stator is provided concentrically around and adjacent to the rotor, the rotor and the first stator being separated by a rotor-stator airgap and a second stator is provided concentrically around and adjacent to the first stator, the first and second stators being separated by a stator-stator airgap. The rotor includes a plurality of magnetic pole structures configured to provide or generate a plurality of magnetic poles and a radially outer surface of each of the magnetic pole structures is curved with an average radius of curvature which is less than an average distance between the outer surface and the central axis. The rotor-stator airgap thus varies circumferentially in distance, with a shortest distance being at a circumferential centre of each of the magnetic pole structures and longest distance being at circumferential ends of each of the magnetic pole structures.

  • Patent number: 11626783
Abstract: An electric power generator comprises a rotor and a plurality of stators arranged coaxially and concentrically about a central axis. There is an inner stator provided radially inwardly of the rotor separated by an inner airgap and an outer stator provided radially outwardly of the rotor separated by an outer airgap. The rotor includes a plurality of magnetic pole structures configured to provide or generate a magnetic field having plurality of magnetic poles. The rotor is not of uniform cross-sectional thickness, wherein: an inner surface of the rotor bulges inwardly at the pole structures, the inner airgap being non-uniform as it is radially shorter at the pole structures and longer in between the pole structures; and an outer surface of the rotor bulges outwardly at the pole structures, the outer airgap being non-uniform as it is radially shorter at the pole structures and longer in between the pole structures.

  • Publication number: 20190288570
Abstract: An electromagnet component (100) for use in a generator comprises at least one magnetic shoe (102) comprising magnetite and a binder, the shoe (102) being at least partially arcuate in cross-section. A metallic core (110) is provided adjacent the magnetic shoe (102) and operatively radially spaced therefrom. A generator comprises one or more of the electromagnet components (100).
