  • Patent number: 6370317
Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling the recording of television programs are disclosed. The apparatus displays electronic program guide information superposed on a television signal. The apparatus allows a plurality of desired programs to be reserved for recording based on the electronic program guide information. An icon is continuously displayed on a television screen in connection with the television picture signal when a program is reserved for recording. An altered form of the icon may be displayed on the television screen when execution of recording the reserved program is impossible due to a specific condition of a recording medium for recording the program. A corresponding method is described.

  • Publication number: 20020031328
Abstract: It aims to make it possible to simultaneously record and reproduce a video signal and improve convenience of operation. A video recording/reproducing apparatus capable of recording an image into a recording medium and reproducing the image from the recording medium, comprising: a recording means for recording video signals and identifying signals indicating the content of the video signals into a recording medium; a displaying means for reading the identifying signals recorded in the recording medium (93), rearranging the read identifying signals, and displaying the identifying signals in the order of the rearrangement; and a reproducing means for sequentially reproducing the video signals from the recording medium (93) in the order of the rearrangement, in which whether there exists a video signal under recording in the recording medium (93) is checked and at completion of the recording of the video signal, video signals to be reproduced are sequentially reproduced.

  • Publication number: 20020031327
Abstract: A recording and reproducing apparatus is disclosed which comprises: an input element supplied with video signals; a recording element for recording the video signals input through the input element onto a storage medium; a reproducing element for reproducing the video signals from the storage medium; a processing element for generating display-ready video signals on the basis of video monitor image signals supplied by the input element and/or on the basis of the reproduced video signals furnished by the reproducing element; and a controlling element for selectively activating, by a single operation of a user, any one of a recording monitor image, a dual-screen display image made of a recording monitor image and a playback image, and a playback image alone.

  • Patent number: 6289170
Abstract: A reproducing device provided with at least a reproduction apparatus and a decoding apparatus with decoding transmitted electronic program guide data is provided, and includes a switcher for switching between an antenna received signal and an internally generated signal, and a channel switcher for switching a channel of a display apparatus. When an electronic program guide display request is made, the switcher is automatically switched to the internally generated signal, which is then output on a predetermined channel having a predetermined frequency. Additionally, the channel of the display apparatus to which the internally generated signal is applied is also automatically switched to the predetermined channel number having the predetermined frequency by the channel switcher thus to allow for the display of the electronic program guide. The invention is similarly applicable to a reproduction device also having a recording feature.

  • Publication number: 20010004418
Abstract: Whether the time zone of a specified program to be reserved overlaps is determined, and if picture recording reservations overlap, a picture recording reservation information is displayed. The overlapped time zone in which a plurality of programs are reserved is eliminated by operating keys to correct the starting time or ending time of the programs or to cancel any one of overlapped programs. Further, the preference for execution of reservation between the picture recording reservation by the first reservation means using the electronic program guide and picture recording reservation by the second reservation means using key input of picture recording day and picture recording time is set. Thereby, any picture recording reservation is executed preferentially, and the confusion in execution of the reservation is prevented.

  • Patent number: 6240240
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for controlling the recording of television programs are disclosed. The apparatus displays electronic program guide information superposed on a television signal. The apparatus allows a plurality of desired programs to be reserved for recording based on the electronic program guide information. If any of the reserved programs overlap, the apparatus allows the starting time and/or ending time of any of the overlapped programs to be changed. The apparatus may permit a program to be reserved for recording by inputting recording time and recording channel. If a program reserved for recording based on the electronic program guide information overlaps a program reserved for recording by inputting recording time and recording channel, a preferential setting enables one of the overlapped programs to be recorded.

  • Patent number: 5900912
Abstract: The invention provides a broadcasting signal receiver which can prevent a failure in reserved recording. A microcomputer decodes a VCR+code of a program desired to be recorded by reservation, which is inputted by way of a remote commander or the like, to obtain data of program starting and ending times and channel information. A channel indicated by the channel information is selected by a tuner circuit, and program table data is extracted from a character broadcasting signal multiplexed in a video signal by a decoder. It is discriminated whether or not one of the program starting times of programs included in the program table data coincides with the program starting time obtained by decoding of the VCR+code. A result of the discrimination is displayed on a monitor television. Only when it is discriminated that a coincident program starting time is present, the data of the program starting and ending times and the channel information are written into a reservation memory and registered for reservation.

  • Patent number: 5519457
Abstract: An apparatus for remotely controlling audio/video devices from different manufacturers. First code signals are directly input to the remote controller apparatus when it is in a learning mode by way of a cable or an infrared light-emitting unit from a peripheral audio/video device. The first code signals are stored in specified locations of a conversion table in the lookup table memory. Second code signals are input to the remote controller apparatus when it is in a conversion mode from another audio/video apparatus by way of a cable or an infrared light-emitting unit. The second code signals represent command control functions. The conversion of the second code signals to third control signals is accomplished by a microprocessor using the conversion table containing the first code signals. The third code signals are output from the remote controller apparatus to control a peripheral audio/video device. Also, there is disclosed an audio/video combination system using the remote controller apparatus.
