  • Patent number: 5595050
Abstract: The invention disclosed herein relates to a method of making a monolayer or multilayer film structure as well as to a method of making a unitized pallet of goods wherein the pallet is stretched wrapped with the film structure. The film structure in each method comprises a polymer blend which contains at least one branched polymer (e.g. low density polyethylene (LDPE) or ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) and at least one linear polyethylene (e.g., LLDPE). The film structure is characterized as having a good overall balance of properties, including high ultimate elongation, excellent load retention and good machine direction tear.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: January 21, 1997
    Assignee: The Dow Chemical Company
Inventors: Kaelyn C. Koch, Lisa M. Bolek
  • Patent number: 5399426
Abstract: Monolayer and multilayer film structures having at least one layer of a polymer blend comprising at least one branched polymer (e.g., low density polyethylene (LDPE) or ethylene/vinyl actetate copolymer (EVA)) and at least one linear polyethylene (e.g., LLDPE) are disclosed. The film structures have a good overall balance of properties, including high ultimate elongation, excellent load retention and good machine direction tear. The films are especially useful for pallet wrapping applications.

  • Patent number: 5175049
Abstract: A wrap-packaging film having differential cling is provided by a film laminate, said film laminate comprising at least two layers,at least one of which layers is an outer reverse layer comprising a linear very low density ethylene copolymer (LVLDPE) having a critical density of less than about 0.915 g/cc which contains a tackifier in an amount sufficient to impart thereto an effective level of cling properties,at least one of which layers comprises an obverse layer of an olefin polymer or copolymer, such as a linear low density ethylene copolymer (LLDPE) which has a critical density of not less than 0.916 g/cc which has little or no cling, and wherein the difference in density between the reverse layer and the obverse layer is at least about 0.004 g/cc,the said differential cling properties being manifested in the higher level of cling of the LVLDPE reverse layer as compared to that of the obverse layer.

  • Patent number: 5089321
Abstract: Multilayer thermoplastic film structures comprising at least one heat-sealable outer layer (A) and at least one core layer (B) are disclosed. Layer (A) has improved heat sealability after irradiation (e.g. electron beam). Layer (B) has improved shrinkage after irradiation. Layer (A) is a linear polyethylene having a melt index from about 2 to about 20 g/10 minutes, a density from about 0.88 to about 0.92 g/cc, a molecular weight distribution (I.sub.10 /I.sub.2) from about 5 to about 8, a fraction of the polyethylene having a degree of branching less than or equal to 2 methyls/1000 carbons of not more than 15% by weight and a fraction of the polyethylene having a degree of branching greater than or equal to 25 methyls/1000 carbons of not more than 25% by weight of the polymer. Layer (B) is a linear polyethylene having a melt index from about 0.05 to about 5 g/10 minutes, a density from about 0.88 to about 0.94 g/cc and a molecular weight distribution (I.sub.10 /I.sub.2) from about 8 to about 30.
