    Abstract: A method for authenticating a user of a device may utilize standard HTTP authentication challenge methods in combination with standard encryption algorithms to arrive at a new challenge response method that is able to use existing application program interfaces (API) of current operating systems for mobile devices, e.g., Apple iOS. The method may enable a two-factor authentication applying the protocol HTTPs by using a smart card, which may facilitate a usage of existing PKI infrastructure on mobile devices.
