  • Publication number: 20160199243
Abstract: A medical support pillow for facilitating tracheal intubation on obese patient comprises a base section, an upper pad, a left arm rest, and a right arm rest. The base section comprises a head section, a back section, and an indentation. The head section and the back section are connected to each other, and the indentation is positioned in between the head section and the back section. The upper pad is positioned within the head section and it can be rotated within the head section. An obese patient is able to position his or her head and neck within the head section and the indentation. Positioning of the medical support pillow allows easy ventilation and intubation on an obese patient as it effectively raises the patient's head and neck above the chest and creates the head in fully stable extension position.

  • Patent number: 9289344
Abstract: An apparatus for facilitating tracheal intubation on an obese patient has a base section (1), a head section (11) attached to the base section (1) and a pad (2) removably positioned on the head section (11). The base section (1) receives a portion of an obese patient's back. Separate arm rests (3, 4) are positioned on both left and right sides of the base section (1). The base section (1) has an indentation (16) for receiving the occiput of a patient's head. The pad (2) has an indentation (115) for receiving the occiput of a patient's head and which is aligned with indentation (16) when pad member (2) is positioned on the head section (11). The apparatus raises the obese patient's head and neck above the patient's chest and positions the patent's head in a stable, extended position to allow easy ventilation and intubation.

  • Patent number: 6446288
Abstract: A medical support pillow for facilitating endotrachael intubation comprising a base member having a pair of oppositely positioned sidewalls, a bottom portion having a bottom surface, and an upper portion. The upper portion has a first inclined surface for receiving a portion of the upper back of a patient and a recess for receiving the occipital area of the patient's head. The recess is adjacent to the inclined surface and extends in a direction that is generally perpendicular to the sidewalls. The upper portion further includes a second inclined surface that is adjacent to the recess wherein the recess is intermediate the first and second inclined surfaces. In one embodiment, the medical support pillow comprises a pad member configured to be removably positioned within the recess. The pad member comprises a top portion for receiving the patient's head. The pad member may be positioned within the recess after intubation has been completed.
