  • Patent number: 11641100
Abstract: A system includes a first USB Type-C Power Delivery (USB-C/PD) port and a control circuit operatively coupled to the first USB-C/PD port. The control circuit is configured to determine whether a short circuit condition has occurred. The control circuit is also configured to turn off a ground isolation switch when short circuit condition occurs. The control circuit is further configured to determine a whether a voltage on a configuration channel line (CC line) is greater than a first threshold voltage. The control circuit is further configured to determine whether the voltage on the CC line is less than a second threshold voltage. The control circuit is further configured to turn on the ground isolation switch when the voltage on the CC line is less than the second threshold voltage. The control circuit may perform one or more error recovery operations after turning on the ground isolation switch.

  • Publication number: 20220070018
Abstract: Disclosed are solutions for communicating with USB-C/PD systems over standard communication interfaces in automotive, aviation, industrial, or other applications. In one aspect, the solutions facilitate a controller of the automotive Local Interconnect Network (LIN) bus such as a vehicle electronic control unit (ECU) to configure, control, and monitor charging and fault data of ports of a USB-C/PD system over the existing vehicle network. The USB-C/PD system may decode a message frame to determine a frame type. If the message frame is a request frame, control data is received from the ECU over the LIN bus to control the operations of the USB-C/PD port. If the message frame is a response frame, the USB-C/PD port transmits response data that monitors the operations of the USB-C/PD port to the ECU over the LIN bus. Advantageously, the USB-C/PD system may be easily integrated into existing communication networks, providing a cost-effective and scalable solution.

  • Patent number: 11119548
Abstract: Technology to dynamically throttle power in a power delivery system is described. In one embodiment, a power delivery system includes a controller associated with a port to supply power. The controller manages a power budget available to the port based on a current state of one or more system parameters. The power budget available to the port can be throttled when the power delivery system operates under stress conditions and adjusted when the power delivery system is no longer operating under stress conditions.

  • Patent number: 11061457
Abstract: Technology to dynamically share system power among charging ports of a multiport power delivery (PD) system is described. In one embodiment, a multiport PD system includes a master controller associated with a master port, and one or more slave controllers associated with one or more slave ports. The master controller determines a port connection status of a set of multiple ports. The port connection status indicates that multiple devices are connected. The master controller determines a power requirement of each of the devices. The master controller dynamically allocates a system power between each of the ports, independent of a connection sequence of the devices.

  • Patent number: 10955865
Abstract: An integrated circuit includes a processor coupled to a voltage bus of a cable and located within a universal serial bus (USB) compatible power supply device. A current sense amplifier (CSA) is coupled to a sense resistor to monitor a current of the voltage bus. A first comparator is coupled to the CSA and the processor and to trigger in response to detecting that a monitored current value from the CSA is greater than or equal to a first reference value, which includes a hysteresis offset value. An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) is coupled to the CSA and the processor. In response to detecting trigger of the first comparator, the processor is to trigger the ADC to measure an absolute current value of voltage bus, and cause an additional voltage, equal to a voltage drop across the cable based on the absolute current value, to be supplied to the voltage bus.
